We talked earlier today about how expensive a project BioShock Infinite was to develop but Irrational Games has a different way of explaining the scale of the game’s development. They produced this infographic to show how much work went into the script and coding the game.

Trials Evolution Gold Edition (PC) Review: The Engine Has a Misfire
Do you remember Miniclip? When I was in high school many a joke class (like intro to business, civics and career studies) was spent playing flash games that wouldn’t crash the old, cheap computers. The original mainstay was miniclip.com, which, I’m slightly surprised to say, still exists today.
That’s where I first played the Red Lynx’s Trials series (it was called Trial Bike back then). I had seen proper Trials on TV on an old show called Motorsport Mundial so I knew what Trials was about and was instantly hooked on the flash game. Naturally, I’d have to pick up Red Lynx’s first PC Trials game since it left flash.
The problem is that while Trials Evolution, the most recent Trials (né Trial Bike) game, is a critically acclaimed game on the Xbox 360, Red Lynx should have kept their PC games on flash.
The Dollars and Cents of BioShock Infinite
At the beginning of January, I wrote up a detailed breakdown of how much a publisher actually makes for each new copy of a game they sold. With today’s release of BioShock Infinite, I thought it would be a good time to apply these numbers to a practical example to show how profitable games actually are.
Building (Critical) Consensus: BioShock Infinite
It’s finally here. After a few delays, much concern over whether it would ever be released and debate over if this game could live up to Irrational Games’ legacy of System Shock and BioShock, we finally have one of 2013’s most anticipated games. Talk all you want about GTA 5, The Last of Us or even the upcoming next generation of consoles, when Ken Levine is making a game, we’re all going to stop and take notice.
Fortunately, everyone agrees that BioShock Infinite lives up to the hype and the legacy of its predecessors.
Building (Critical) Consensus: The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct
I warned you about The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct back in January. That footage that Terminal Reality gave IGN at the end of December wasn’t going to get any better by a March release date. And if you followed me on Twitter, I gave you advance warning that Activision and Terminal Reality weren’t taking review copy requests for the game.
The problem isn’t solely with the graphics and animations though. The levels are repetitive The survivor group management mechanics are effectively pointless. Basically, every review about this game says that TWD: Survival Instinct is little more than a cash grab using a popular license.
PAX East 2013 News Roundup
PAX East isn’t known for big announcements and this year was no exception. However, there were a few noteworthy tidbits to come out of this year’s convention.
DuckTales Remastered
YES! YES! YES! DUCKTALES! MOTHERFUCKING DUCKTALES!
Sorry, let me compose myself for a minute. It’s a remake of the classic NES game based on the classic Disney cartoon, both of which we all know and love. In addition to the graphical updates, WayForward seems to have added a bit to the game as there are some parts of that trailer that I don’t recognize.
My only question (besides an actual release date) is about the music. The Moon level’s music is considered to be among the best pieces of music written in the 8-bit era. I’m hoping that the original music for that level comes back but as long as that piece comes back in some form or another.
PSA: Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Ops are Done
A quick FYI for Mass Effect 3 fans: As implied by a post on the BioWare blog and later confirmed on the BioWare Social Network forums, the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer weekend operations have come to an end. They had been weekly since last fall’s release of the Retaliation DLC and bi-weekly prior to that.
There’s Still Time to Pledge to Rogue System
Just a quick reminder/heads-up that epic looking space sim Rogue System is in the final hours of its Kickstarter campaign. We profiled the game briefly a couple of weeks ago and came to the inevitable conclusion that this thing will be absolutely epic. However, it still needs your money to make it happen.
Click here for the Rogue System Kickstarter. You can pledge until about 11:00 PM EDT (about nine hours after posting).
Bastion Developer Supergiant Games is Working on a New Sci-Fi RPG
One of the greatest indie games of all-time is Bastion. That’s not an opinion. Consensus among both gamers and critics was that Bastion was absolutely amazing. It won numerous awards for the narrative, music, art design and overall RPG and indie game awards.
Naturally, when Supergiant Games announces that it’s making another game, everyone is going to take notice. This week, Supergiant unveiled their next game, Transistor.
