Hollywood is Working on a Tetris Movie for Some Reason
Turning video games into movies is pretty common place nowadays. There was a Need For Speed movie earlier this year. Resident Evil has a rather lengthy and successful enough film franchise. Ubisoft is trying to make movies out of all of its big franchises starting with 2012’s Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. There are movies for World of Warcraft, Uncharted and Gran Turismo in the works.
However, the latest video game adaptation is likely to leave you scratching your head. Threshold Entertainment has plans to turn Tetris into the next video game to hit the silver screen.
Unlike the other games that have been given the movie treatment which had characters or a plot, Tetris was a puzzle game. Everybody knows that the objective of Tetris was to rotate various shapes as they fell in order to complete lines. There never seemed to be anything to the game beyond that puzzle element and the Russian-inspired soundtrack and visuals.
Somehow, Threshold Entertainment plans to take the Tetris licence and turn it into “a very big, epic sci-fi movie,” according to Threshold CEO Larry Kasanoff. As for why they’re making a Tetris movie, Kasanoff said, “Brands are the new stars of Hollywood. We have a story behind Tetris which makes it a much more imaginative thing.”
Normally, I try to give a little summary, analysis or commentary at the end of each post but I’m completely at a loss here. WTF?

I guess they figure it worked so well for “Battleship.” Maybe Checkers is next? Or Connect Four?
At least Monopoly I could see. Rich guys in top hats buying up real estate. OK. Makes sense.
Or Hungry Hippos as a fun cartoon about obese animated creatures from DreamWorks. I could even see Chess in a Game of Thrones sorta way.
But Tetris? Who are the main characters? Odd shaped blocks falling from the sky? What is the plot? Setting? Or maybe its more like a gang bang geometric porno that doesn’t need a plot?
I don’t get it. Does anyone even play Tetris anymore?
Wouldn’t they sell more tickets with Angry Birds,Farmville or Candy Crush?

Does anybody seriously even go to the movies anymore?
I feel like every time I watch a preview I get a little dumber, and every time I watch a movie I get a little dumber.
And angrier.
