We talked earlier today about how expensive a project BioShock Infinite was to develop but Irrational Games has a different way of explaining the scale of the game’s development. They produced this infographic to show how much work went into the script and coding the game.

The Dollars and Cents of BioShock Infinite
At the beginning of January, I wrote up a detailed breakdown of how much a publisher actually makes for each new copy of a game they sold. With today’s release of BioShock Infinite, I thought it would be a good time to apply these numbers to a practical example to show how profitable games actually are.
Building (Critical) Consensus: BioShock Infinite
It’s finally here. After a few delays, much concern over whether it would ever be released and debate over if this game could live up to Irrational Games’ legacy of System Shock and BioShock, we finally have one of 2013’s most anticipated games. Talk all you want about GTA 5, The Last of Us or even the upcoming next generation of consoles, when Ken Levine is making a game, we’re all going to stop and take notice.
Fortunately, everyone agrees that BioShock Infinite lives up to the hype and the legacy of its predecessors.
Game of Cats

This gallery contains 9 photos.
Yes, some wonderful person has combined two of the internet’s favourite things into one glorious gallery. It’s Game of Thrones characters and their feline equivalents. Because cats are awesome (though don’t let my dog know I said that) and so is Game of Thrones. Source: askshiva
Building (Critical) Consensus: The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct
I warned you about The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct back in January. That footage that Terminal Reality gave IGN at the end of December wasn’t going to get any better by a March release date. And if you followed me on Twitter, I gave you advance warning that Activision and Terminal Reality weren’t taking review copy requests for the game.
The problem isn’t solely with the graphics and animations though. The levels are repetitive The survivor group management mechanics are effectively pointless. Basically, every review about this game says that TWD: Survival Instinct is little more than a cash grab using a popular license.
PAX East 2013 News Roundup
PAX East isn’t known for big announcements and this year was no exception. However, there were a few noteworthy tidbits to come out of this year’s convention.
DuckTales Remastered
YES! YES! YES! DUCKTALES! MOTHERFUCKING DUCKTALES!
Sorry, let me compose myself for a minute. It’s a remake of the classic NES game based on the classic Disney cartoon, both of which we all know and love. In addition to the graphical updates, WayForward seems to have added a bit to the game as there are some parts of that trailer that I don’t recognize.
My only question (besides an actual release date) is about the music. The Moon level’s music is considered to be among the best pieces of music written in the 8-bit era. I’m hoping that the original music for that level comes back but as long as that piece comes back in some form or another.
Geek Links of the Week
Deadspin’s resident video guru Timothy Burke has been pretty busy yesterday and today gathering clips to post. He does this through one of the biggest video recording setups you’ll ever see. Gee, I want just a little bit of that to create video content for here. [Gizmodo]
Let’s have some fun introducing this link and call it “Victor Sandberg and Missile Command’s Holy Grail.” [ars technica]
Can we declare Anna Kendrick our new nerd queen? She’s actually a huge Game of Thrones fan and has the House Kendrick crest to prove it. [UPROXX]
I didn’t realize it until yesterday but Twitter has officially been around for seven years. Here are seven people who have had their lives changed by Twitter. Sadly, Charlie Sheen isn’t on the list. [CNN]
Over on the sister site, I examine what Major League Gaming and eSports needs to do to make it big and why they won’t be going mainstream anytime soon. [The Lowdown Blog]
PSA: Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Ops are Done
A quick FYI for Mass Effect 3 fans: As implied by a post on the BioWare blog and later confirmed on the BioWare Social Network forums, the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer weekend operations have come to an end. They had been weekly since last fall’s release of the Retaliation DLC and bi-weekly prior to that.
The 2013 Worst Company in America Tournament is Underway

With the start of the NCAA Men’s Basketball championship tournament, also known as March Madness, comes a deluge of bracket tournaments to determine the winner of every competition imaginable. One of the more noteworthy is The Consumerist’s bracket to determine the Worst Company in America.
We gamers might have heard of this because the Mass Effect 3 ending and day-one DLC controversies powered EA to victory last year. Well, the tournament is underway for 2013 and EA is in with another chance to repeat.
The New Star Trek Into Darkness Trailer Features More Cumberbatch, Plot
We’ve gotten plenty of trailers for this summer’s reboot sequel Star Trek Into Darkness but, for the first time, we have some clues as to the plot of the movie.
The newly released international trailer for Into Darkness gives a bit more insight into Benedict Cumberbatch’s still nameless character and how Kirk and the Enterprise get involved.
