Timing is everything, especially in irony. Yesterday, Comcast was announced as the winner of The Consumerist’s annual Worst Company in America poll. On that same day, they filed their paperwork with the Federal Communications Commission to begin the process of merging with Time Warner Cable.

I hope you didn’t spend hundreds of dollars on the iPhone 5S thinking that is was going to be the be all and end all of iPhones. Only six months after the release of the latest iPhone, reports have come out about the upcoming bigger and better iPhone 6.

King has Worst IPO Launch of 2014
Sometimes, the evil empire wins. Sometimes, the evil empire loses. And, on the rarest of occasion, the emperor is wearing no clothes. I think the latter example applies to King.
The company behind Candy Crush Saga and all the sagas as a result had their IPO launch on Wednesday. While King managed to raise $500 million for the company with the share issuance, it was a painful day for King. The company’s stock dropped over 15% in price on its first day of trading.

Disney Buys Maker Studios, Owner of YouTube MCNs Polaris and RPM
YouTube isn’t going away any time soon if big corporations have anything to say about it. The latest proof of that is Disney buying one of YouTube’s largest multichannel network owners, Maker Studios. The owner of such prominent MCNs as Polaris, Maker Music and RPM was purchased by Disney for $500 million.

Apple and Comcast In Talks to Bring Streaming TV to Apple TV
Just one month after signing a deal with Netflix to give preferential network treatment to Netflix data, Comcast is working on another streaming content deal. This time, they’re not just the network provider looking for a cut. They want to stream content to Apple TV to allow the both companies to compete with Netflix.

Twitter is Testing a New “Fave People” Timeline
Apparently Twitter is a firm believer in the old Red Green adage of “If it ain’t broke, you’re not trying.” The social media / microblogging (how long has it been since someone called it that?) is currently testing another change to the service. Some users of the Android app now have a “Fave People” feature added to the app that highlight tweets from specific accounts.

Samsung Unveils the New Flagship Galaxy S5 Smartphone
With Apple releasing the slightly improved iPhone 5S last fall, the door was open for Samsung to make a big splash with their flagship Galaxy series. Instead, the S5 pulls a 5S and just makes a few incremental improvements over the much-loved Galaxy S4 smartphone. Still, it’s an impressive piece of kit.
