Peter Capaldi’s 12th Doctor Costume Revealed
The oldest man to take over the helm of the TARDIS gets an old-school costume that harkens back to the outfit that Jon Pertwee wore as the Third Doctor. Peter Capaldi’s Doctor has lost the bowtie, tweed, cuffed pants and boots for a more elegant looking ensemble that I’d be more than willing to cosplay in.
First, I suppose that I should show you the actual costume.
The outfit is highlighted by The Doctor’s dark blue Crombie coat (with red lining), cardigan and pants. The shirt is a plain white one without the frills of the Third Doctor’s white shirts. The Eleventh Doctor’s matte-finished boots have been given the boot for a pair of shiny, black Doc Marten shoes.
Via /r/DoctorWho, here’s a comparison of Capaldi’s outfit to both of Matt Smith’s costumes. As much as I liked Eleven’s second costume, especially the purple coat, I love Twelve’s costume.
In describing his new costume, Capaldi said, “He’s woven the future from the cloth of the past. Simple, stark, and back to basics. No frills, no scarf, no messing, just 100 per cent rebel Time Lord.” For his part, showrunner Steven Moffat said, “New Doctor, new era, and of course new clothes. Monsters of the universe, the vacation is over – Capaldi is suited and booted and coming to get you!”
I don’t know about you but I love the new outfit. Mind you, I think I’ve said that about every Doctor’s outfit so I might not be the best judge of fashion.
