Infinite Crisis Beta Impressions: The MOBA You Want, Not The MOBA You Need

infinite-crisis-bannerI’ve never played a MOBA before but with the release of the open beta of the DC Comics MOBA, Infinite Crisis, I thought now was a good time to get into the genre. Most people are judging compared to the big MOBAs, League of Legends and DOTA 2. Without that comparison base, what would I think of my first MOBA?

Rocksteady Studios is Back with Batman: Arkham Knight

batman-arkham-knight-bannerJust when you thought that WB Games Montreal’s buggy and derivative Batman: Arkham Origins destroyed the Batman: Arkham franchise, the developer you need, rather than the developer you deserve, returns.

It hasn’t been a secret that Rocksteady was still working on projects for WB Games. It turns out that their next game is another entry into the Arkham franchise with Batman: Arkham Knight.

Warner Bros. Says Arkham Origins DLC a Priority Over Bug Fixes

batman-arkham-origins-bannerWarner Bros. has stuck a fork in the Batman: Arkham franchise. Some would argue that they already did that when they took control of the series from Rocksteady and handed it to rookie developers WB Games Montreal.

A community manager took to the game’s official forum to announce that WB Montreal had suspended work on patching the game and had devoted itself to working on the game’s DLC.

Eisenberg, Not Heisenberg, to Play Lex Luthor in Batman vs. Superman

jesse-eisenberg-lex-luthor-man-of-steel-2After hearing the news that The Social Network star Jesse Eisenberg was cast as Lex Luthor, I think that DC Comics fans were in a state of collective shock. Considering that Bryan Cranston was interested in the role and would have been absolutely perfect, fans were absolutely flabbergasted that Jesse Eisenberg will get the leading antagonist role for Man of Steel 2, AKA Batman vs. Superman.

Gal Gadot Cast as Wonder Woman in Batman vs. Superman

gal-gadot-wonder-woman-headerI’m not sure that there’s a more impossible role in the world of film to cast than Wonder Woman. Seeing as she is an Amazonian princess who is tall, muscular and attractive, there aren’t many actresses that can fit the bill who are good actresses. However, Zack Snyder is giving Wonder Woman a go on the big screen and has cast Gal Gadot in the role of Wonder Woman/Diana Prince.

Building (Critical) Consensus: Batman: Arkham Origins

batman-arkham-origins-box-artPoor WB Games Montreal. The rookie developer probably would have been given the benefit of the doubt before launch if they had taken up any DC franchise but the Batman: Arkham franchise. Rocksteady Studios did an amazing job with the first two Arkham games so they left a tough task for the devs who followed. In this case, the act was so tough to follow that Warner Bros. didn’t just embargo the game to release date but didn’t issue review copies to some prominent reviews including Jim Sterling. That’s gotta make you feel great about it.

While the reviewers felt that Origins was a solid effort, the recurring theme in most of the reviews was that WB Montreal played it fairly safe but not doing anything particularly new with the Arkham franchise apart from adding multiplayer to the game. If you liked the last two Arkham games, chances are that you’ll like this one as well. Just don’t expect this to be anything new or the big improvement that City was over Asylum.

DC Comics to Follow-up Man of Steel with Batman/Superman

superman-batman-logoDC Comics’ big follow-up to the massive success of Man of Steel isn’t the much-anticipated Justice League movie but a movie starring DC’s two biggest heroes. Superman and Batman will share the screen in 2015’s Batman/Superman.

Man of Steel Scores the Biggest June Opening Weekend Ever

We knew that it was likely to be a big opening but I don’t think any of Superman’s biggest fans thought that it would be this good. The new Superman reboot “Man of Steel” scored the biggest opening weekend box office gross for the month of June of all-time with a US take of $125.1 million. Adding in the international totals, Man of Steel picked up $196.7 million.

The previous domestic record for a June opening weekend was $110.3 million for Toy Story 3 in June 2010. Man of Steel also far outpaced 2006’s Superman Returns which opened to $52.5 million in the US.
