E3 2013: Sony Wins the Next Generation in June
Sony had one simple mission heading into their 2013 E3 press conference: Don’t screw it up! Microsoft handed Sony an absolute gift at every turn from the Xbox One’s DRM to privacy issues to used games to rentals to the price.
Not only did Sony not screw up their press conference, they committed the video game console equivalent to homicide. Sony played the Rains of Castamere live on stage and slew the Xbox One in a bloody and violent way that saw them destroy Microsoft’s next-generation challenger in every way possible. Even George R.R. Martin was shocked at the carnage.
Five Dream E3 Announcements for the PlayStation 4
Sure, I could sit here and wax business about what I think Sony will announce for the PlayStation 4 because it will make sense from a business perspective. And as interesting as I like analyzing the business implications of the actions of the video game industry, I love to loosen up my tie, roll up my sleeves and just game.
So rather than go through the rumour mill for the five most likely announcements that Sony will make at its big E3 press event, here are the five announcements that I most want Sony to make for the PlayStation 4.
Bungie’s Destiny: Much Ado About Nothing (Yet)
Not surprisingly, Bungie’s unveiling of their in-development Destiny to an assembled group of gaming press was massive news. After all, Bungie developed the Halo franchise, produced five well-received games in the series and have moved on to a much-anticipated new IP that will be published by Activision.
If you checked any of the major gaming blogs or news sites, Destiny’s unveiling wasn’t a one post piece of news. Writers dedicated multiple posts to news about the game but all those posts had one thing in common. Bungie didn’t unveil anything of substance about Destiny. Read the rest of this entry
Sony Officially Launches the PS4; Here’s What We Know
As expected, last night’s big Sony PlayStation event was the official announcement of the PlayStation 4. Okay, the existence of the PS4 was never in doubt nor was there any doubt that yesterday’s announcement would be unveiling the PS4. We didn’t actually get to see the console itself but we learned all about it and even got to see some teasers of games for the upcoming console. Read the rest of this entry
What to Expect In Tonight’s PlayStation Announcement
Tonight is Sony’s big PlayStation event. While it hasn’t been officially confirmed, we all expect that tonight will be the official announcement and unveiling of the PlayStation 4. Since Sony announced that there would be an announcement, the PS4 rumour mill has kicked up a notch.
Before tonight’s big event, here’s a look at some of the big news and rumours we expect to officially have confirmed or denied about the PS4. Read the rest of this entry
Is Sony Revealing The PlayStation 4 on February 20th? Get Giddy!
That video above says it all. Sony has decided to hold a massive PlayStation event in less than three weeks’ time. Investors and the media have been invited to this press conference.
All signs point to this being one of two things: Either Sony has purchased the exclusive rights to Crash Bandicoot and handed off development of a new trilogy to Naughty Dog or PS4! PS4! PS4!
Sorry, I’m trying not to get excited. While this generation of console hardware has performed admirably and has played host to many an excellent game, after seven years, it’s time to move on. When a cellphone (okay, smartphone) has more horsepower than the major home consoles, it’s time for an upgrade.
Rumours say Sony is Dropping the DualShock Controller for the PS4
It appears the folks in charge of designing Sony’s PlayStation 4 live by Red Green’s philosophy of if it ain’t broke, you’re not trying. A recent report on CVG says that Sony will radically change their traditional DualShock analog controller for one that will include a touchscreen on the front and biometric sensors built into the grips.
