The kid in me is marking out right now. The man, the myth, the legend known as The Ultimate Warrior is coming to WWE 2K14 as a pre-order bonus. I’m very much against pre-ordering games but as a fan of wrestling back in golden age of the late 80s and early 90s, I need to get my hands on a wrestling game with Warrior in it!
No mortal can withstand the gods of warriors past unleashing the power of the Warrior and all the little warriors coming on the spaceship from Parts Unknown!
Well, I picked up Surgery Simulator 2013 using the money I made from selling those useless trading cards. It was probably a bad decision but I’m stuck with it now. Even if it’s not the best gaming experience ever, it’s certainly good for a laugh.
Just when Apple was starting recover from the legal blow dealt to it over e-book price-fixing, they’re getting mired in another legal drama. However, I don’t think that they have to worry too much about this one. A Nashville lawyer is suing Apple for facilitating his addiction to online pornography.
The stories about NSA’s PRISM surveillance program aren’t going away any time soon, nor should they. Here’s a look at how Microsoft worked with the NSA to give them access to your communications. [The Guardian]
Last year’s Indie Game: The Movie was a great look inside the world of video game development. In the three or so years since the movie was made, what has become of the featured devs. [Game Informer]
MLG is planning to expand its program offerings beyond live streaming its events. This will include highlights, interviews and analysis programming. [Forbes]
Not only does Hollywood have a bad track record of making movies from video games but they have an equally poor track record of making their own video games. [Kotaku]
Not only is EA out of the action on the Wii U but it sounds like Activision and Ubisoft aren’t bullish on Nintendo’s console. [Games Industry]
You know, I was really excited for Square Enix’s upcoming re-release of Final Fantasy X and X-2. Shockingly, they stand as the only two FF games I’ve played to completion even though they aren’t my favourite FF games. (FFIX FTW!)
This week, SquEnix released a comparison video of the original SD version of FFX for the PS2 and the updated HD Remaster. I have to say, apart from some updated textures, smoothing and colour brightening, there doesn’t seem to be much remastered.
I wasn’t expecting the game to be completely rebuilt in FFXIII’s engine but a little work on those character models wouldn’t have hurt. Just look at the hair and outfits. That was good 12 years ago but I supposed quick cash-ins on classic games is what happens when console manufacturers kill backwards compatibility. Tidus still looks likes he’s pawing at thin air rather than touching Yuna. At least the environments look relatively okay. Maybe it gets better in action.
Welcome to Day 2 of the 2013 Steam Summer Sale. I have gotten through the first day completely unscathed. I was very close to buying Skyrim: Legendary Edition but I decided to hold out to see if I can find a better deal.
Anyway, here’s a look at today’s Daily Deal and the latest round of Flash Sales and the Community Pick.
All the rumours swirling about a Deus Ex sequel got everyone excited… right until the moment that we found out that Deus Ex: The Fall wasn’t a big triple-A release or even the rumoured Deus Ex movie. No, Deus Ex: The Fall is the first move of the famed franchise into the mobile gaming space. Until XCOM: Enemy Unknown and KOTOR came out on iOS, I assumed that mobile was a wasteland for core gamers but it turns out that there’s hope.
While Deus Ex doesn’t live up to the standards for an iOS game set by XCOM, it’s not an epic failure like Square’s last major mobile release, Final Fantasy: All the Money Bravest. While the combat might have been a bit lost in translation, the multiple approaches to a level of the proper Deus Ex games are still there. Overall, the critics are well and truly mixed on this one.
I don’t know if I ever mentioned this but I’m a huge fan of Twin Peaks. I’m also a fan of damn fine coffee. So of course I’m going to run this Twin Peaks pie and coffee supercut. You know, I really should find a copy of Deadly Premonition.
A U.S. District Judge has ruled that Apple conspired with several book publishers to raise the price of electronic books and try to limit competition in the e-book market in an effort to combat Amazon and the $9.99 price for e-books on its website.
As I mentioned yesterday, the annual Steam Summer Sale started today. The first deals went live at 1:00 PM Eastern. There will be the usual collection of 48-hour daily deals, 8-hour flash sales and 8-hour community pick deals. However, good luck buying anything right now. Steam is getting hammered with traffic.
We’ll be keeping tabs on the big sales and dropping PSAs for you to checkout under the Steam Sale link on the top banner.
For now, here are the active daily deals (ending July 13th at 1:00 PM Eastern) and flash sales (ending at 9:00 PM Eastern).
