Sony Announces PS4 Firmware 2.0 Which Includes Long-Awaited Share Play
Back when the social features of the PlayStation 4 were first announced, one feature that caught a bit of heat from the core gamers was the ability for a friend to step into your game and take over for you. The idea is that if you were having trouble with a section of the game, you could ask a friend to play (or watch) to help you out.
While I thought that the PS4 launched with that feature, a quick perusal of the internet suggests that it wasn’t and still isn’t part of the PS4’s offerings. That will change shortly as Sony is soon to launch a virtual couch co-op feature called Share Play.

Sony’s new cloud gaming service that I once called gaming’s next constructive technology is going to go public… kind of. The long-awaited open beta of PlayStation Now goes live in open beta to PlayStation 4 gamers in the US and Canada today.

PlayStation Now Rental Prices Are Higher Than Retail
In the run up to the open beta of PlayStation Now that is scheduled to launch in July, PS Now users in the closed beta have noticed a major change as Sony gets geared up for that milestone. Sony has added prices to the PS Now menus and those prices have potential customers up in arms.

E3 2014: PlayStation Wants to be Your Shooter and Multiplayer Console
Some seven hours after the Xbox media briefing ended, it was Sony’s turn to try to impress gamers with their keynote to close out Monday’s E3 action. Unlike the green brand, the PlayStation crew used their 90-minute presser to mix their game previews with some new hardware and entertainment offerings. As a result, the middle of the presser dragged a little bit relative to the Xbox one but did the rest of what was shown impress more than what Microsoft had to offer.

Critics Corner: Murdered: Soul Suspect
If you follow me on Twitter (@TheSteveMurray), you probably saw me mention that I wasn’t disappointed that I was turned down for a review copy of a recent release. The game came out to pretty poor reviews by big release standards so not spending 10 hours of my life playing and a couple more writing and editing a review was probably to my benefit. Instead, I’ll spend a couple of hours reading and condensing reviews of Murdered: Soul Suspect for a Critics Corner post.
Murdered: Soul Suspect sounds like a fairly intriguing concept at first but it sounds like the execution was a little lacking. Just about everyone found some aspect of the game a bit “meh” but most found more than one aspect to be lacking in polish.
So enough of my little preamble. What did the critics think of Murdered: Soul Suspect?

Sony Launching Pre-Loading of All Pre-Orders in September
One area that the old brick-and-mortar games retailer still has over your favourite digital retailer is firing up the game on launch day. Sometimes, picking up a game at a midnight launch gets you gaming faster than having to download the game from the various stores you buy from.
Sony is planning to change that on their PlayStation Store this fall. Starting with the launch of Destiny in September, Sony says that all games pre-ordered on the Store will be available for pre-loading prior to the game’s launch so you can play right when the game’s release.

Rumours Say Sony’s E3 Presentation Includes Uncharted 4, The Last Guardian, a The Last of Us 2 Tease and More
We’re about one month out from the 2014 edition of E3. With all the next-gen console hype out of the way in last year’s edition, this is the first E3 where we get to see the games on the new hardware star.
For this year’s E3 keynote, Sony plans to unveil a whole host of new PlayStation 4 games with some gameplay footage of their already announced high-profile games. And while I’m sure they wanted to have a few surprises for E3, a new report running down the presentation means that we likely won’t be shocked.

Another PS1 & PS2 Compatability Rumour Pops Up
Back in January, we brought you a report that Sony was working on adding local PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2 emulation to the PlayStation 4 console. After a couple of quiet months, the rumour has come back with the UK’s Official PlayStation Magazine reporting on it too.

Critics Corner: inFamous: Second Son
Just a couple of weeks after Microsoft got its first potential Xbox One system seller onto store shelves, Sony has one of their flagship first-party exclusive franchises out on the PlayStation 4. The inFamous franchise may not have the mass appeal of a first-person shooter like Titanfall but the two inFamous games are considered to be among the best superhero games ever made.
And it looks like if you loved the first two inFamous games, you’ll love inFamous: Second Son. Some critics don’t like the story as much as the previous two and they don’t think the gameplay is “next-gen” enough (which is something I want to discuss in an upcoming column). Many more love the game for what it is.
But enough of my summary. Here’s what the critics think of inFamous: Second Son.

Sony to Add More Video Sharing and Recording Features to PS4
We knew it was going to a happen, it was just a matter of when not if it would happen. In a post on the official PlayStation blog, Sony Computer Entertainment America announced that a firmware update coming in the next few weeks would see the HDCP copy protection on PS4 games removed which will make video content producers (and the people who watch them) very happy.
