Ubisoft Confirms Assassin’s Creed: Rogue After Footage Leaks

assassins-creed-rogue-leaked-logoWhile some companies will deny, deny, deny any leaks coming out of their camp until they’re blue in the face, Ubisoft quickly gave up the fight when it came to the leak of this fall’s other Assassin’s Creed game.

After leaks on Tuesday and reports that we had for you as far back as March, Ubisoft confirmed that there would be a second Assassin’s Creed game launching this fall. This game is last-gen only on PS3 and 360 and is called Assassin’s Creed: Rogue.

The Crew Beta Impressions: No Cars Go

the-crew-headerAs part of Ubisoft’s ongoing corporate strategy to introduce new franchises in new genres, they’ve decided to take on Need for Speed with their take on the street racing genre with The Crew. While it seems to borrow elements from the Need for Speed franchise, the emphasis on story missions, car customization and co-op play sets it apart from the only rival in the arcade street racing game genre.

Having spent a few days with the closed beta and a few years with Need for Speed games, can Ubisoft’s offering compete with EA’s resident racing series?

Ubisoft Exec Says that DLC is “Pretty Much Accepted” by Gamers

ubisoft-money-logo-bannerUbisoft executives are just a gift for bloggers looking for something to write. In the last year, they’ve said that they only want to launch new IPs that can become franchises, called making Beyond Good & Evil a mistake, tried bribing members of the press at a Watch Dogs event and gotten developers to dumb down PC game graphics to comparable to console levels. All this and people still give Ubisoft their money.

Now, they want you to know how much they appreciate continuing to give them money. Ubisoft’s Vice President of Digital Publishing, Chris Early, told GamesIndustry.biz that there was “no resistance” to their latest DLC strategy and that DLC is pretty much accepted by gamers now.

Ubisoft Employee Says Publishers Want PC Games Downgraded to Console Visuals

the-division-headerWhen the retail version of Watch Dogs was released in May, many people accused Ubisoft of downgrading the visuals from the E3 2012 reveal trailer for two reasons. Some said that Ubisoft basically lied about the capability of next-gen consoles with their original gameplay video. The second accusation was that Ubisoft downgraded the PC versions visuals to keep the visuals in line with that of those next-gen consoles.

Assassin’s Creed Franchise Taken Over By Ubisoft Quebec

ubisoft-logo-bannerUbisoft’s flagship development studio will no long be the force behind Ubisoft’s flagship franchise. As part of an expansion of their Quebec City studio, Ubisoft is moving their Assassin’s Creed franchise from the control of Ubisoft Montreal, home to all of Ubisoft’s triple-A franchises,  to Ubisoft Quebec.

Electronic Sports World Cup Adds Just Dance to its Lineup

just-dance-eswc-headerAs much of a fan as I am of eSports, I just couldn’t quite wrap my head around the latest “eSport” to join the offerings at this fall’s Electronic Sports World Cup in Paris.

If you’re a fan of dancing, you now have a reason to be interested into eSports. Ubisoft announced that their next dance game, Just Dance 2015, will be a part of the competitive lineup at the 2014 ESWC.

Watch Dogs Mod Brings Graphics to E3 2012 Levels

watch-dogs-theworse-mod-screenshot-01For all the talk that the E3 2012 teaser for Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs was a complete lie after the graphical downgrade for the game’s retail release, it turns out that it may not have been a lie at all. Well, at least not completely.

Watch Dogs hasn’t been out three weeks but an early version of a mod has been released for the PC version of Watch Dogs that reintroduces the graphical tricks that made the original Watch Dogs videos look so amazing. What’s the most shocking is that the files needed for the mod were included with the game all along.

E3 2014: Ubisoft Press Conference Trailer Roundup

Now that you’ve read about the Ubisoft keynote briefing, it’s time to watch most of it. While I’ve only got the five most interesting trailers from Ubisoft’s E3 presser, those videos still cover 23 minutes of Ubisoft’s one-hour presentation. While Ubisoft might not have had a lot of games to show off this year, they certainly went into depth on the games they did show us.

E3 2014: Ubisoft Starts the Franchises, Leaves the New IPs on the Bench

ubisoft-e3-2014-headerIf there’s one thing that Ubisoft is good at, it’s building hype around new IPs at E3. So it was only natural to hope for something new out of the French to steal the show at E3 once again.

The only problem was that all the delays over the last year meant that there seemed to be no room for Ubisoft to unveil new IPs at E3 this year. Instead, new games were the last thing on Ubi’s mind this year as they focused on established franchises and delayed games for this year’s E3. If I didn’t know better, I’d swear this was their 2013 E3 keynote on repeat.

Critics Corner: Watch Dogs

watch_dogs-headerI’m not a fan hyperbolic hashtags but since it was announced, Watch Dogs has had enough #hype that it easily trumps the amount of hype that Titanfall had behind it. This game had a solid two years of hype from the initial announcement to buzz over next-gen level graphics, the release date announcement and subsequent delays. For these last two years, Watch Dogs has been held up as the gold standard for next-gen gaming. It was hyped as the first must-own game of this generation of consoles. Well, it might have been if it hadn’t been pushed back six months.

Watch Dogs is the second of this month’s releases that I saw in action at Fan Expo. Trust me when I say that Watch Dogs needed the time to fix it. There were clipping issues with bridges. The framerate was a bit wobbly. And the controls looked a little sluggish. Of course, that was just one tiny vertical slice that I saw nine months ago.

Did the extra six months of polish time make Watch Dogs worth the #hype? Let’s see what the critics think.
