Sure, Thor might be a Norse demigod and not live on Earth but that doesn’t mean that he has one cool pad. (People still say stuff like that, right?) Since Thor: The Dark World opens in theatres this weekend, our friends at Movato thought that now would be a good time to look at the value of Thor’s Castle. I’d reckon that’s where most of the movie’s budget went.

Marvel Takes Over Star Wars Comics in 2015
Building (Critical) Consensus: Disney Infinity
Given the fact that Skylanders has made Activision over $1 billion in gross revenue since it was first launched, you knew that it was a matter of time before someone else jumped on the bandwagon. In this case, it’s Disney who have opened up their vast vault of characters for their own video game slash action figure collecting game Disney Infinity. Who knew that South Park’s Chinpokomon episode would prove hauntingly accurate of today’s video game industry? But that’s probably just me being cynical.
Beware when buying this game for consoles other than the Xbox 360. Reports say that the PS3 version is plagued with online and offline play issues . The Wii U version doesn’t seem to be compatible with the Classic and Pro controllers. And Wii owners have found out that their system’s version of the game doesn’t have a local co-op adventure mode. There’s a billion dollars waiting for Disney with this launch. No wonder why they seemed to rush it.
Building (Critical) Consensus: DuckTales: Remastered
How far can nostalgia carry a game? Perhaps more importantly, what matters more when evaluating an updated version of a classic game: How it stacks up by today’s standards or how it stacks up to the original game?
I feel as though that’s the problem that faced many reviewers when they evaluated DuckTales: Remastered. Some evaluated it on its own merits by today’s standards and some compared it to the NES classic. When I first checked MetaCritic, it was literally split down the middle with half evaluating the game compared to the original and the remainder evaluating the game on modern platformer standards.
I’m kind of glad that I haven’t received a copy from Capcom because I’m not sure how to best critique an HD remake of a favourite of everyone who grew up with an NES. From the looks of it, the critics can’t agree how to rate DuckTales: Remastered either.
Lucasfilm Animation Lives Again with Star Wars Rebels
Just when we thought that Disney was hellbent on gutting Star Wars to make itself money, we got a little glimmer of hope yesterday. Lucasfilm and Disney announced that the Lucasfilm Animation division is getting to work on a new series set between Episodes III and IV called Star Wars Rebels.
The series will, obviously, explore the previously largely unexplored two decades between the prequel trilogy and the start of the original trilogy that we all know and love. The story will focus on the Galactic Empire stamping out the last remains of the Republic and the Jedi Knights while the rebellion starts to form.
EA Gets the Star Wars Games Licence, Fans Worry
“I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened.” – Obi-Wan Kenobi
When they closed LucasArts, Disney said that they would license out Star Wars to other developers to make games. Well, they’ve gone ahead with that plan just one month after closing down LucasFilm’s in-house game developer and publisher.
Yesterday, Disney announced that EA was awarded a “multi-year exclusive licensing agreement” to develop and publish Star Wars games.
Everything Wrong with Iron Man
I’m sure most of you have seen one of Cinema Sin‘s many videos about sins in modern movies. Their latest video happens to be about a movie that has a sequel coming out today. It’s everything wrong with Iron Man in four minutes.
The Cost of Being Iron Man (Infographic)
Iron Man 3 debuts in theatres this weekend in Canada and America. If you were basically anywhere else in the world, you’re a week ahead of us so no spoilers.
While Iron Man 3 is expected to be one of the biggest movies of the summer, the gross box office revenue isn’t going to be enough to pay for you to be Tony Stark. In fact, you’re likely to be somewhere in the neighbourhood of 90% short on funds based on the latest analysis of the cost of being Iron Man.
The History of LucasArts
LucasArts is and was one of my all-time favourite publishers. They facilitated some great games from when I was growing up like the Dark Horse / Jedi Knight series, Tie Fighter, Rebel Assault (Shut up! I liked it.) and Knights of the Old Republic. That’s not counting the other massively popular LucasArts games like Monkey Island, Maniac Mansion and Grim Fandango.
Victor Lucas of the popular Canadian gaming news show Electric Playground looks back at the history of LucasArts. For a quasi-Easter Egg, watch for a young Geoff Keighley at the 3:34 mark as he worked in his early days in the gaming press.
What if Disney Made Game of Thrones?
That’s a frightening thought but the result is a fantastic video. So what would Game of Thrones look like (and sound like) if it was done in typical Disney fashion? In this video, Daenerys and Ser Jorah have a duet in the classic Disney princess style.
George R. R. Martin would be spinning in his grave at the thought of this. Wait, he’s still alive? How bloody long is he planning to take to write the last two books?
