Winter is Coming (and War, too) in the Game of Thrones Season 3 Trailer

We’re a whole six weeks away from the March 31st season premiere date but that doesn’t mean that HBO isn’t willing to rub the wait in a little with a new trailer for Season Three.

This season will be based on the first half of A Storm of Swords. Looking at the trailer, we can expect death, destruction and dragons. Fuck yeah, dragons! Shit’s going to get real when the dragons enter battle.

The Zombie Apocalypse Starts in Montana

I’ve been away from etg HQ over the last couple of weeks so I’ve missed a couple of interesting stories. One of those is a genius in Montana hacking the emergency broadcast system on KRTV to issue a warning about zombies. While I’m sure civil authorities and KRTV bosses aren’t particularly amused, this is probably the best use of the emergency broadcast system ever.

esquire-network-logoRather than believe in the old adage that the geek shall inherit the earth, NBC Universal has decided to officially announce that they are killing off G4. Okay, we all knew that this has been coming for a while seeing as they’ve been slowly axing G4 anchor shows like Attack of the Show and X-Play. However, now it’s official that G4 will cease to exist and NBC will launch The Esquire Network in its place on April 22.

Beware of The Fake Geek Girl

When we say that we’re a geek blog for geeks and want to take the word geek back, we aren’t kidding. That’s why it’s our duty to warn you about THE FAKE GEEK GIRL!

There is No Conflict: Star Trek Director J.J. Abrams to Helm Star Wars Episode VII

george-lucas-jj-abramsDespite previously saying that he declined any involvement in the next Star Wars trilogy, reports say that J.J. Abrams will add the title of director of the first movie of the new Star Wars trilogy to director of the rebooted Star Trek franchise.

In December, Abrams told Empire Magazine that there were some early discussions but he didn’t go forward with discussions over directing one of the upcoming movies because of his loyalty to Star Wars. Because of the friendly rivalry between Star Trek and Star Wars fans, it’s interesting that one director would helm both franchises. Read the rest of this entry

All of Stan Lee’s Marvel Movie Cameos

If there’s one thing that I look forward to in every Marvel Comics movie, it’s the Stan Lee cameo. I know that’s a weird thing to look forward too but it’s usually a laugh-worthy moment. Thanks to this video, you don’t have to sit through a whole movie for a couple of seconds of Stan. You can get them in one handy dose.

BBC May Have Big Plans for Doctor Who’s 50th

doctor-who-the-eleven-doctorsA report in the Birmingham Mail (via Airlock Alpha) says that Christopher Eccleston will once again don his leather jacket and man the helm of the TARDIS as he returns for the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary special.

Not only did the Mail say that Ecclestone was returning as the Ninth Doctor but would be joined by all actors who played one of Matt Smith/The Doctor’s previous incarnations. Five Questions for Season Four of Haven

haven-wallpaperThe third season of Syfy’s original series Haven wrapped up last Friday with a back-to-back set of episodes. The problem with the finale is that the cliffhanger left me with more questions than answers. I guess that’s the trouble with TV season finales. Writers feel obligated to leave you a cliffhanger to make you feel obliged to come back so as to get the conclusion of the story even though fans of the show will come back regardless.

Since we were left with more questions than answers, here are some questions that will need answering when the fourth season of Haven starts this fall. Read the rest of this entry

It probably won’t come as much of a surprise that I’m a Star Trek fan. Chances are you’ll be a big sci-fi fan when you write a geek culture blog. Anyhow, since we have the second movie in J.J.
