Journey was my favourite game of 2012 and easily the best indie game of the year. It’s also been a reasonably popular game for cosplayers. However, if you’re planning to cosplay Journey, you might not want to do it outside of a convention.

TBT: The Black Tower Needs Your Money to Make Your Classic JRPG Dreams Come True
I don’t think I’m going out on a limb by saying that Final Fantasy just isn’t what it used to be. That stretch on the PlayStation 1 and PlayStation 2 from 7 through X-2 was full of great games that people still love and still want to play. Given the desire for an old school JRPG, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the growing indie segment of the market is coming to the rescue.
Last week, the crowd funding campaign for TBT: The Black Tower started. If you’re a fan of the old-school J-RPGs like the PS1-era Final Fantasy games and Xenogears, a group of French developers need your money to make this homage to the great JRPGs happen.
Building (Critical) Consensus: Remember Me
A few weeks back, I wrote a column that lumped Fuse and Remember Me together as new IPs that could help gamers through a dark and dreary period of time of sequels and reboots. Well, I’d like to admit that while my heart was in the right place, I may have been jumping on the wrong multi-platform games to champion as new IPs to save us from the tyranny of franchise monotony.
There’s a fairly wide gap in scores but the overall consensus that the idea is pretty nice but the combat and actual gameplay leaves quite a bit to be desired. Well, at least I didn’t read a review saying that Capcom locked out half the game for DLC.
Comic Book Pull List for June 5, 2013
After an absolutely epic week for comics last week (and a painful week for my wallet though my local comic book store disagrees), things quiet down a bit this week. That doesn’t mean that we don’t have some interesting prospects for this Wednesday’s new releases.
First up this week, let’s talk about Green Lantern #21. Geoff Johns time at the helm of the Green Lantern series has come to an end after 10 years writing GL comics. Now, we get to see what Robert Venditti can do with the Lantern Corps. A new Daredevil series kicks off this week with Daredevil: Dark Nights #1 helmed by artist Lee Weeks. And a new story arc kicks off in the Archer & Armstrong series in Archer & Armstrong #10.
Some People were Quite Shocked by Game of Thrones
Having not read the books yet, Sunday’s episode of Game of Thrones certainly caught me off-guard. It was definitely a big “did that just happen” moment though I’ll definitely be back for this week’s season finale. However, there were some people who were well and truly shocked and upset after watching the most recent episode. Those people make great viewing for us thanks to YouTube.
By the way, the video is probably a bit spoilerish so if you haven’t seen last week’s episode and haven’t read the books: Spoilers…
Atari’s ET Burial Site to be Unearthed
We’ve all heard the urban legend about the massive failure that was Atari’s E.T. game. The story goes that Atari were expecting their ET game to be a massive commercial success following how big a hit the movie was. However, Atari massively over estimated demand for the game and the initial production run left scads of unsold cartridges when all was said and done. To get rid of the unsold games, Atari dumped and buried ten to twenty transport trucks full of unsold ET games at a landfill near Alamogordo, New Mexico.
Until now, that story was just an urban legend. Now, a Canadian documentary crew is setting out to find out if the story is actually true or if the Great Atari Burial is just an urban legend.
The Successor to Eternal Darkness “Shadow of the Eternals” Hits Kickstarter
Mature-rated games aren’t exactly common on Nintendo consoles but that doesn’t mean that they didn’t exist. One of the best games you never heard of on the GameCube was the survival horror Eternal Darkness by Silicon Knights.
Silicon Knights may have died some years ago as a result of a lawsuit but from its ashes has risen Precursor Games and they’re bringing back their iconic game with a spiritual successor with the episodic Shadow of the Eternals. To do so, you need to give them a little help on Kickstarter.
Matt Smith is Leaving Doctor Who
Farewell, Eleven. We hardly knew ye. After about three years on the job, Matt Smith will be hanging up the bowtie and fez and leave Doctor Who at the end of the year. A press release from Smith said that he would appear in the 50th Anniversary Special and make his final appearance at the helm of the TARDIS in the Christmas Special when The Doctor will regenerate into the Twelfth Doctor.
This Fan-Made Doctor Who Teaser is Better than What BBC Will Give Us
It’s only been a couple of weeks but I miss my weekend episodes of Doctor Who. Maybe I’ll go back and review classic Who to fill in some of the six months between now and November’s 50th Anniversary special.
For now, this Monday with Who (I’ll come up with a better series title for Monday Doctor Who posts) I have a fan made teaser trailer for the 50th Anniversary special.
PS: I’m allowed to refer to The Doctor as Doctor Who as his proper name. It was established in canon in The War Machines.
