PlayStation Now Coming to PS Vita and TV on October 14th

playstation-tv-headerThe PlayStation Vita family of hardware is getting a bit content boost next week. Alongside the October 14th launch of the PlayStation TV device that acts as an equivalent to the PlayStation Vita that you can plug into your TV, the PS Vita and PlayStation TV will get the launch of the PlayStation Now beta on those devices.

Sony Closing PlayStation Home

playstation-home-headerSony’s take on a virtual world experience for PlayStation 3 users is finally coming to an end. After launching PlayStation Home in 2008 and spending the last six years trying to get people onboard, Sony has scheduled PlayStation Home to condemnation on March 31st, 2015.

Gamescom 2014 News Roundup

gamescom-2014-bannerNormally, the summer would be quiet enough for me to be able to post all sorts of news from Gamescom. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out that way for me so I have to do the big Gamescom news in a few posts. Today, we have news and gameplay videos while all of the Gamescom trailers will be in Monday’s Game Trailers Roundup.

For now, we have four of the more interesting stories that I’ve read from Gamescom. While only one is a game announcement, we have some business of gaming-esque news that’ll probably just make you hate Ubisoft more.

Sony Announces PS4 Firmware 2.0 Which Includes Long-Awaited Share Play

ps4-share-buttonBack when the social features of the PlayStation 4 were first announced, one feature that caught a bit of heat from the core gamers was the ability for a friend to step into your game and take over for you. The idea is that if you were having trouble with a section of the game, you could ask a friend to play (or watch) to help you out.

While I thought that the PS4 launched with that feature, a quick perusal of the internet suggests that it wasn’t and still isn’t part of the PS4’s offerings. That will change shortly as Sony is soon to launch a virtual couch co-op feature called Share Play.

Two More The Last of Us Leads Leave Naughty Dog

infinity-ward-logoThe apparent exodus of top-level talent at Naughty Dog is continuing. Having lost the creative head of Uncharted, the game director of Uncharted and the art director of The Last of Us, two more leads from The Last of Us have left Naughty Dog.

The lead game designer and narrative lead for The Last of Us have both left the employ of Sony’s flagship studio and moved onto one of Activision’s premiere studios, Infinity Ward, to start work on 2016’s Call of Duty.

The Last of Us Live Show Includes Secret Epilogue

the-last-of-us-one-night-liveAhead of yesterday’s release of The Last of Us: Remastered on PlayStation 4, the folks at Naughty Dog (and marketing guru masquerading as a journalist Geoff Keighley) put together a special one night only stage performance of The Last of Us.

The live performance of scenes from the game also included a special treat at the end for those in attendance. There was a special epilogue scene that game director Neil Druckmann said was only included for the stage show and won’t be included in any release of The Last of Us going forward.

Naughty Dog Announces The Last of Us Movie and Uncharted Release Date

uncharted-movie-release-dateIt may not have a script or cast and may be on its third director but that doesn’t mean that Sony Pictures isn’t charging ahead with the movie adaptation of Sony Computer Entertainment’s flagship Uncharted franchise. At Comic Con last weekend, Sony announced the latest plans for Naughty Dog on the big screen which includes an adaptation of The Last of Us.

Sony Settles for $17.75 Million in 2011 PSN Hacking Lawsuit

playstation-network-headerIt’s been three years since the big PlayStation Network hacking incident that saw the PSN having to be shut down for 24 days and the personal information of 77 million users stolen. While Sony ran the Welcome Back promotion that saw users get free games and a free month of PlayStation Plus, the lawyers have decided that wasn’t enough and now Sony will be paying up to $15 million in damages as a result of the PSN hacking incident of 2011.
