How Much Would It Cost To Be Captain America?

With Captain America: Winter Soldier coming out this week, the internet’s occasional hobby of figuring out how much it would cost to be a superhero has come up again. This time, it’s about how much it costs to make Steve Rogers into Captain America. Unlike fellow Avenger, Iron Man (AKA Tony Stark), the Captain doesn’t have a lot of high-tech gadgets. In fact, apart from lab costs to make the serum and the materials cost for the shield, just about anyone could afford to be Captain America.

Marvel Comics Legend John Romita Jr. Moves to DC Comics to Draw Superman

john-romita-jr-superman-headerNormally, the movement of artists and writers from one publisher to another isn’t big headline news in the comic industry. However, most days don’t see the movement of a near 40-year veteran of the industry from one major player to the other big player.

John Romita Jr. has been working for Marvel Comics since 1978 with long stints drawing Iron Man, Spider-man and the X-Men. Now, he’s going to get a chance to draw the most iconic comic book superhero in the world. Romita is making the jump to DC Comics to draw Superman.

Yes, RDJ Owns a Flying Iron Man Suit

He might not be Tony Stark but I don’t think that means that Robert Downey Jr. is any less cool than Tony Stark. As a gift for wrapping Avengers, RDJ’s staff got him a custom-built life-size R/C flying Iron Man suit. Okay, it’s not an actual suit of armor but I think that’s still pretty cool.

The Avengers 2 is Avengers: Age of Ultron

marvel-avengers-age-of-ultron-logoAt the end of  the Marvel movies panel at Comic Con, Joss Whedon spilled the beans on the upcoming sequel to last year’s big blockbuster The Avengers. Rather than Thanos showing up after his appearance during the credits in The Avengers, we’re getting another classic comic villain.

Building (Critical) Consensus: Deadpool

deadpool-box-art-xbox-360Superhero games tend not to be terribly good. Off the top of my head, the last great licensed superhero/comic book game was Spider-man 2, though that might have been down to the web-swinging. Then again, licensed games, in general, tend to have a reputation for being poor.

Yesterday’s release of Deadpool wasn’t among this year’s worst games but it doesn’t sound like the sort of game that’s likely to get much traction outside of Deadpool fans and the Marvel crowd. The reviews indicate that this game is a good piece of fan service but nothing particularly fresh or innovative.
