eSports Weekend Calendar: June 27 – 29, 2014
Just as I start the eSports Weekend Calendar feature, I figure out that it’s a lot harder than I originally envisioned. Every community has their own calendars of varying size but now that ESGN’s website seems to have been shut down, there isn’t one calendar that covers most major eSports. As such, our eSports Calendar won’t have much outside the biggest events for now.
Anyway, this weekend’s eSports calendar has a couple of big events. The 2014 GSL Season 2 final is on Saturday as will see soO and Classic duel in a Best of 7 series for the championship. Dota 2 also gets a massive showcase before this year’s edition of The International. It’s ESL One: Frankfurt from Commerzbank Arena, a football stadium in Frankfurt that hosted five matches of the 2006 World Cup and four matches, including the final, of the 2011 Women’s World Cup. That should be a pretty amazing spectacle.
eSports Weekend Calendar: June 20 – 22, 2014
I don’t know about the rest of you but I like tuning into a few eSports events over the course of the weekend. The problem is that I often just stumble into most tournaments thanks to notices on Twitter rather than having one go-to list of what’s on during the weekend.
Today, I try to launch a new weekly feature on et geekera. It’s a schedule of some of the bigger eSports events of the weekend including links to where you’re likely to find them.

Riot Unveils Fantasy LCS
Growing up and even to this day, it seems as though more people are interested in their fantasy sport teams than their favourite teams and players. Loyalty is nice but nothing grabs people’s attention like competition with friends and random folks on the internet.
Riot Games are trying to cash in on the popularity of fantasy sports by launching their own fantasy eSport. Starting this summer and currently in beta, Riot is launching Fantasy LCS for summoners who might make a better team manager than team member.
KeSPA Announces Results of League of Legends Matchfixing Scandal Investigation
On Monday, KeSPA, the Korea e-Sports Association which acts as a governing body for eSports in South Korea, released the results of their investigation into the AHQ Korea League of Legends matchfixing scandal that was brought to light by AHQ Promise’s attempted suicide.
The result of the investigation by a KeSPA emergency task force showed that AHQ Korea team manager, Noh Dae Chul, attempted to fix matches at OGN’s League of Legends Champions Spring 2013 tournament but ruled that only Promise had attempted to throw the matches.

The UK’s Porn Filter Blocks League of Legends Patch
I think we all knew that the United Kingdom’s so-called porn filter would end up causing more harm than good but I don’t think that gamers thought it would hit so close to home. League of Legends gamers have been experiencing errors after a recent update that included files with names that triggered the filters.
