Back in December, we brought you news of a pair of class-action lawsuits being brought against EA on behalf of investors as a result of the poor state of Battlefield 4 at release and the connection that the condition of the game affected the company’s share price.
This weekend, a little digging by GameSpot found that one of the two class-action lawsuits against EA over Battlefield 4 appears to have disappeared. That marks the first time in recent memory that EA has one something that isn’t the worst company in America award.
I know that Battlefield 4 launched with more than its fair share of bugs and might earn EA yet another Worst Company in America award but I didn’t think that it would be this poorly received.
Two law firms are currently investigating whether a class-action lawsuit can be launched on the behalf of EA investors as a result of statements made by EA officers about the game, their knowledge of the state of the game and the impact that had on the company’s share price.
I know more than one person does the reviews at IGN but I still like to have a laugh at box quotes proven wrong. Battlefield 4 promoted itself with an IGN quote saying that it blew CoD: Ghosts out of the water. Then the actual reviews come out and…
By the way, BF4’s current-gen console score was only 8.0/10. That’s an even bigger win for CoD.
Just when you thought that the next-gen console launches would be the gaming event of the year to bankrupt you, yesterday happened. We had the releases of WWE 2K14 and Sonic Lost World (coverage soon) and the current-gen launches of Battlefield 4 and Assassin’s Creed 4. We’ll be covering the next-gen versions of those games when they come out (I haven’t decided if I’ll break-up critics roundups between PS4 and XB1 later) but for now, we have the current generation editions of these games to cover.
One of this year’s most interesting battles will be the sales duel between spunkgargleweewees as Battlefield 4 and CoD: Ghosts are out within a week of each other this year. The first one up is BF4. While nobody expects the current-gen version of the game to be as good as the next-gen or PC builds of the game, the consensus is that the multiplayer portion of the game is great and the single-player is as underwhelming as usual. However, I don’t think you’re buying a modern military shooter for the story. Unless you’re buying Spec Ops: The Line. That game was fantastic.
Can’t wait to get your hands of the upcoming EA Star Wars games? Well, I would advise you not to hold your breath because we’re still a ways out from seeing them.
During their 1st quarter earnings call, EA CFO Blake Jorgensen revealed that the first of EA’s Star Wars games under the current licensing agreement will be the new Battlefront. Unfortunately, we shouldn’t expect it until summer of 2015 which means another two years of waiting for a new Star Wars game.
In his announcement, Jorgensen noted that they were timing the release of Battlefront around the planned release of Episode VII. While the teaser trailer was decidedly original trilogy inspired, it’s entirely possible that this could mean that the new Battlefront could tie into the new trilogy. Even if it’s DICE making the game, the prospect of a movie tie-in game worries me. I don’t think I need to tell you why.
Peter Moore opened EA’s 2013 EA press conference by saying that Electronic Arts was going to show off 11 new titles for next-gen consoles during the event. What he neglected to mention is that EA was showing off 10 games that were shooters or sports games and Mirror’s Edge 2. Did you know that you can’t spell “Electronic Arts” without “shooter” or “sports?”
EA’s policy of cutting jobs and whole studios to save money has to be undone for the publisher to get to work on their new exclusive Star Wars license. New job postings show that EA’s DICE studio, the developer of the Battlefield franchise and one of three EA devs working on Star Wars, will be opening a studio in Los Angeles.

When they closed LucasArts, Disney said that they would license out Star Wars to other developers to make games. Well, they’ve gone ahead with that plan just one month after closing down LucasFilm’s in-house game developer and publisher.
Yesterday, Disney announced that EA was awarded a “multi-year exclusive licensing agreement” to develop and publish Star Wars games.
