I quite enjoyed Man of Steel. It hit enough of the usual comic book lore moments while still having its own unique story elements to set it apart from the typical DC Comics lore. It was also a pretty good summer blockbuster popcorn movie at the same time.
However, it wasn’t perfect. I thought the end fight could have lost 15 to 30 minutes without hurting the movies. Fortunately for me, the gang from HISHE kind of agree with that.
Remember when I was excited about Ubisoft trying the nearly unheard of thing for games industry of launching new IPs at the 2013 edition of E3. However, that excitement might be a little short-lived.
In a recent interview with A List Daily, Ubisoft’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Tony Key, says that the developer and publisher is only interested in launching new IPs if they think that they can turn them into franchises and release sequels.
This week marks the release of the second issue of DC Comics’ Trinity Wars between the three Justice Leagues. Part two is in this week’s Justice League of America #6. However, that’s not one of my three picks of the week.
Getting the theme month issue pick is Marvel with Superior Carnage #1 which is part of their Superior Spider Month. The DC Comics pick of the week is something I’ve been looking forward to since it was announced. It’s Batman ’66 #1 which sees us pick up with the Caped Crusader as the stories from good old days with Adam West carry on. And Red Sonja gets a reboot courtesy of Dynamite in Red Sonja #1.
First, sorry that I missed yesterday’s breakdown. I’ll have those daily deals for you below.
So we’re on to Day 6 of the annual Steam Summer Sale. We’ve reached the halfway point of the 12 day sale (assuming that the sale ends at 1:00 PM Eastern on July 22nd) and it seems like I’m finally going to start hurting my wallet something fierce today.
We all knew that Codemasters was going to release a 2013 edition of their F1 game series this year. That wasn’t going to be a surprise. What was a surprise is the new Classic Edition of the game that will launch this fall that will provide something special for longtime Formula One fans.
The kid in me is marking out right now. The man, the myth, the legend known as The Ultimate Warrior is coming to WWE 2K14 as a pre-order bonus. I’m very much against pre-ordering games but as a fan of wrestling back in golden age of the late 80s and early 90s, I need to get my hands on a wrestling game with Warrior in it!
No mortal can withstand the gods of warriors past unleashing the power of the Warrior and all the little warriors coming on the spaceship from Parts Unknown!
Well, I picked up Surgery Simulator 2013 using the money I made from selling those useless trading cards. It was probably a bad decision but I’m stuck with it now. Even if it’s not the best gaming experience ever, it’s certainly good for a laugh.
Just when Apple was starting recover from the legal blow dealt to it over e-book price-fixing, they’re getting mired in another legal drama. However, I don’t think that they have to worry too much about this one. A Nashville lawyer is suing Apple for facilitating his addiction to online pornography.
The stories about NSA’s PRISM surveillance program aren’t going away any time soon, nor should they. Here’s a look at how Microsoft worked with the NSA to give them access to your communications. [The Guardian]
Last year’s Indie Game: The Movie was a great look inside the world of video game development. In the three or so years since the movie was made, what has become of the featured devs. [Game Informer]
MLG is planning to expand its program offerings beyond live streaming its events. This will include highlights, interviews and analysis programming. [Forbes]
Not only does Hollywood have a bad track record of making movies from video games but they have an equally poor track record of making their own video games. [Kotaku]
Not only is EA out of the action on the Wii U but it sounds like Activision and Ubisoft aren’t bullish on Nintendo’s console. [Games Industry]
You know, I was really excited for Square Enix’s upcoming re-release of Final Fantasy X and X-2. Shockingly, they stand as the only two FF games I’ve played to completion even though they aren’t my favourite FF games. (FFIX FTW!)
This week, SquEnix released a comparison video of the original SD version of FFX for the PS2 and the updated HD Remaster. I have to say, apart from some updated textures, smoothing and colour brightening, there doesn’t seem to be much remastered.
I wasn’t expecting the game to be completely rebuilt in FFXIII’s engine but a little work on those character models wouldn’t have hurt. Just look at the hair and outfits. That was good 12 years ago but I supposed quick cash-ins on classic games is what happens when console manufacturers kill backwards compatibility. Tidus still looks likes he’s pawing at thin air rather than touching Yuna. At least the environments look relatively okay. Maybe it gets better in action.
