Steam Holiday Sale: December 26, 2013

steam-holiday-sale-2013-header-dec-26Just because the Yanks don’t have Boxing Day sales (or Boxing Day whatsoever) doesn’t mean that they aren’t getting sales today. That’s why Steam is here with more sales for you to spend your gifted money/Steam cards.

Just an FYI, the free copy of Left 4 Dead 2 is still available as of writing but it was only advertised as being available until 1:00 EST today. That offer appears to have been silently extended because of yesterday’s epic Steam outage. Jump on that fast because it could just be an error that hasn’t been caught yet.

Steam Holiday Sale: December 24, 2013

steam-holiday-sale-2013-header-dec-21Okay, I’m a little late with today’s Steam Sale info which might be troublesome for strategy gamers because you’re the biggest beneficiaries of the active flash sales. There are some recent releases available during the active daily deals should you be interested in those.

By the way, has anyone else ever noticed how terrible the Call of Duty sales always seem to be? You’d think they’d practically be giving away the older versions. Nope. Just 25% off. I think Activision is happy just taking money from the console folk.

Comic Book Pull List for December 24, 2013

origin-ii-1You have one last day to do your Christmas shopping. Because your neighbourhood comic book store is closed tomorrow, all the new releases are out today. Convenient how these things work out.

New releases are going to be in short supply this week unless you’re interested in special edition issues. As far as new releases go, they are few but the big two have a pair each. DC Comics has Forever Evil #4 and a Forever Evil tie-in with Justice League #26. Meanwhile, Marvel launches a new miniseries that begins with the beginnings of Wolverine in Origin II #1. They also start a new arc in Avengers #24.

The Sean Bean Film Death Infographic

Different actors have different skill sets. You hire Christian Bale if you want someone who can act his ass off regardless of his role. If shirts must be removed, Matthew McConaughey will be there. And if you want someone to die, there is no one in Hollywood better than Sean Bean. The man hasn’t met an on-screen death he couldn’t own.

Before we shut it down for Christmas break, here’s a spoiler-filled look at all of Sean Bean’s deaths.

Steam Holiday Sale: December 23, 2013

steam-holiday-sale-2013-header-dec-23We’ve reached the fifth day of the Steam Holiday Sale and I think I may call today The Day of Many Regrets. There are a lot of games on sale today that I bought for more than what I would have today.

For example, I bought Borderlands 2 and the Season Pass for about $25. Today, Borderlands 2 GOTY Edition is only $15. Amnesia: The Dark Decent is on for 80% off instead of the 75% off I bought it at. I’m pretty sure I would have saved an extra 25% on Dead Space 2. Add in yesterday’s deals that I overpaid on including Antichamber, Rogue Legacy, Max Payne 3 and Tomb Raider and you can see why I would call this a day of regrets.

You won’t regret getting them. You just regret buying them too soon. Damn Steam and their fantastic sales!

Naniwa Wins the Biggest SC2 Show Match In History

bitcoin-starcraft-challenge-bannerThe battle of the two best foreigners playing StarCraft II took place this weekend. Canadian Zerg Scarlett and Swedish Protoss Naniwa did battle in a special one-off best of seven series in a battle to determine who is the best non-Korean in SC2. In an epic back-and-forth series, it was Naniwa taking the win in six games, 4 to 2.

Perhaps a bigger story than the match itself was the prize pool. The series, billed as the highest paying show match in SC2 history, featured the first major prize entirely in Bitcoins. Thanks to sponsors, the prize pool was 14 BTC or about $8,400.

My Thirteen Favourite Games of 2013

While everyone was looking ahead with (justified) excitement to the launch of Sony and Microsoft’s next-generation consoles, they might have missed out on an absolutely fantastic year in gaming. While nothing world-changing has come out on the Xbox One or PlayStation 4 so far, their predecessors had a fantastic year with some amazing games released over the last twelve months.

Since the end of the year is upon us, I think it’s only appropriate that I get in on the listing action and give you my list of my favourite games of 2013. They may not be the best games of 2013 but that doesn’t mean that I didn’t love playing them.

Steam Holiday Sale: December 21, 2013

steam-holiday-sale-2013-header-dec-21It’s day three of the annual Steam Holiday Sale. You know, it’s bad enough that Christmas gifts are devastating my wallet, now I have Steam plucking money out too. Damn you, GabeN!

Anyway, there are some good picks in the current deals if you don’t already own them. Daily deals on Sleeping Dogs and the Star Wars: The Old Republic series. On the flash sales, there’s XCOM: Enemy Unknown and Deus Ex: Human Revolution – Director’s Cut. Definitely some great deals open right now.
