The Walking Dead: Season Two – Episode One (Spoiler-Free) Review: Boulevard Of Broken Dreams

the-walking-dead-season-two-headerThe surprise hit of 2012 was The Walking Dead. Given how often that licensed games disappoint and Telltale’s shaky track record before the release of the first episode of their The Walking Dead series, no one was expecting Telltale’s new game set in the universe  of The Walking Dead comic books to be as great as it was. The first five episodes of The Walking Dead picked up dozens of Game of the Year awards along with seemingly hundreds of other awards in 2012.

So The Walking Dead: Season Two had a lot to live up to. Could the first episode of Season Two of The Walking Dead live up to the original or would it be underwhelming like the 400 Days DLC?

Steam Holiday Sale: January 1, 2014

steam-holiday-sale-2013-header-dec-23It’s the final 23 hours of the Steam Holiday Sale. All signs point to the sale ending at 1:00 PM EST tomorrow so be sure to clear those must-buy items off your wish by then. I’d like to say there’s more to today’s daily deals but the sale seems to go out with a whimper rather a bang.

What Do You Want to See From et geekera in 2014?

As I mentioned earlier this morning, today is et geekera’s one year anniversary of existence. The traffic, comments and readership grew far faster than I was expecting since we were jumping into a very big, very competitive pool of geek interest blogs.

Now that we’re one year in, I think now is a good time to do a big picture examination of the direction of the blog and I thought I would solicit some opinions about what you like, what you don’t like and what you’d like to see in the future.

After the jump, I have a few polls and a feedback form to give us some feedback.

et geekera Annual 2013

Hello and welcome to 2014! It’s been exactly one year since we launched our little corner of the internet for geeks called et geekera. I was originally planning to do two or three posts a week over here and instead I’m doing two or three posts a day. It’s funny how things work out when you actually get down to business.

Anyway, to mark one year of this little corner of the interwebs, here’s a look back at the top posts of 2013.

Steam Holiday Sale: December 31, 2013

steam-holiday-sale-2013-headerLet’s start with a very important FYI: Steam is now advertising the sale as ending at 1:00 PM EST on January 2nd. That means we’re 47 hours from completion. The Steam news page and various store pages of games not on a daily/flash sale indicate a January 2nd ending rather than the January 3rd that’s plastered all over the graphics. Don’t buy everything yet but be ready to move up your buying  timetable by 24 hours.

Franchises are the order of the day in today’s Daily Deals. Company of Heroes, Grid, Scribblenauts, XCOM and Half-Life are all on sale for the next 47 hours. Unlike some of the other daily deals, all games in those franchises are on sale which makes for a nice way to end your 2013.

Steam Holiday Sale: December 30, 2013

steam-holiday-sale-2013-header-dec-21We’re down to the fourth to last set of Daily Deals in this year’s Steam Holiday Sale. It’s not quite time to start buying everything on your wishlist but you should be paying close attention so you don’t miss a chance to save money.

Some pretty big games are available for daily deals today. The like of GTA4, Injustice and the Metro franchise are available for cheap on daily deals right now. If you’re looking for a scare, Alan Wake and Outlast are right up your alley. You can pick up that pair for less than $10.

No wonder why I spend so much during these sales. I keep thinking what great deals these sales are and just keep spending until it’s too late. Damn you, Steam!

Steam Holiday Sale: December 29, 2013

steam-holiday-sale-2013-header-dec-23Another day, another set of new Steam deals. Today, you can get a big discount on the Mass Effect franchise by picking up the first two parts for $10. Sadly, I can’t track down an ME3 or trilogy deal anyway. And while Fallout: New Vegas is on sale for a daily deal, there’s no discount on Fallout 3 at all.

Steam Holiday Sale: December 28, 2013

steam-holiday-sale-2013-headerWe’ve hit the final stretch of the Steam Holiday Sale. Today is the final Saturday of this year’s edition of the sale seeing as it end at 1:00 PM EST next Friday. Don’t say that I haven’t warned you but I’ll probably give you a 48-hour warning on Wednesday.

Anyway, my indie game of the year, Gunpoint, is on sale for 66% off and I say that’s a must-buy even if it has inexplicably been left of every year-end list but mine. If triple-As are more your speed, Saints Row IV made a bunch of best of 2013 lists and is on sale for the next 48 hours.

Steam Holiday Sale: December 27, 2013

steam-holiday-sale-2013-header-dec-21If you’re looking for some triple-A games to fill out your collection, today is a good day for you to check out the Steam Holiday Sale. Hitman: Absolution and Portal 2 are your best bets today. If you’re willing to overspend compared to what you will likely have to pay in six months during the Summer Sale, there’s also Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and Call of Duty: Black Ops II.

Still, there’s other good games worth picking up. Don’t Starve and Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon are both available for $5.09 and both are worth it.

7 Best Games of the 7th Generation: The Orange Box

the-orange-box-headerAfter seven weeks, our list of the seven best games of the seventh generation of video game consoles comes to a close. While many, many great games aren’t making such a short list of great games, I think that this game won’t get too much of an argument for making it over other deserving

When a game picks up scads of awards, everyone takes notice. But how good is a company that can make multiple games, ship them in a bundle and garner accolades and win awards for each of them? That’s exactly what Valve did when they put Half-Life 2, HL2: Episodes 1 & 2, Team Fortress 2 and Portal into one award-winning package called The Orange Box.
