Doctor Who: Nightmare in Silver Review

doctor-who-nightmare-in-silver-posterOne of my biggest complaints about the Russell T. Davies era of Doctor Who, besides the annoyingly regular deus ex machina episode endings, was that Davies ruined some of the classic Who villains. Sure, the Cybermen weren’t too badly done by but the Daleks were killed and resurrected so many times that I stopped caring about them.

And so it fell to British sci-fi writer Neil Gaiman to write the latest Cybermen episode. When handed the assignment, showrunner Steven Moffat had one simple instruction for Gaiman. His job was to make the Cybermen scary again. After watching, I’m not sure that it was mission accomplished.

Who Spoiled The Amazing Spider-Man 2?

the-amazing-spider-man-2-posterIn our 24/7 celebrity and Hollywood driven news cycle, paparazzi photos of the sets of upcoming films are par for the course. While these are avoidable to a certain degree, given the saturation of set photos on various geek blogs for movies that will draw interest, it’s not completely unavoidable.

And that brings me to The Amazing Spider-Man 2. While the paps were just doing their job by sneaking photos from The Amazing Spider-Man 2’s set, they may have inadvertently spoiled a massive part of the movie. It’s not like they were hiding who the villain was but the part of the plot that was recently spoiled is absolutely massive and definitely something Sony/Columbia and Marvel wouldn’t want getting out.

Star Wars: Episode VII On-Track to Start Shooting in 2014

Bad Robot co-founder and Star Wars: Episode VII producer, Byran Burk, has spilled the beans about some of the plans for Episode VII. He’s not talking about the plot, characters or actors in the movie though. He’s strictly talking about logistics and it looks like things are still on track for a 2015 release.

Doctor Who: The Crimson Horror Review

doctor-who-the-crimson-horror-posterThis week’s episode of Doctor Who was the 100th since the show’s return in 2005. While most series would celebrate that milestone, the BBC and Doctor Who boss Steven Moffat let this one pass without much fanfare. Makes sense seeing as there’s a big 50th anniversary special coming in November.

That doesn’t mean that we didn’t get a special episode of Doctor Who, even if it wasn’t billed as such. What we got was, slightly ironically, an episode that started Doctor-lite but still ended up being the best of the Clara episodes since Jenna-Louise Coleman joined the series full-time.

The Toledo Mud Hens Are Celebrating Star Wars Day in Style

toledo-mud-hens-chewbacca-star-wars-jerseyThe Toledo Mud Hens, the triple-A baseball affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, are celebrating Star Wars Day on May the 4th. While most baseball teams are likely to encourage fans to show up in costume or have a Star Wars character on hand to throw out the first pitch, the Mud Hens are taking things one step further.

This whole weekend will be Star Wars Weekend at Fifth Third Field with Saturday being “May the Fourth Be with You” day and Sunday being “Revenge of the Fifth.” Even better, they’re wearing snazzy Chewbacca-themed jerseys.

Daryl Dixon Photobombs a Lannister Family Photo

I didn’t realize that you could do fan photos with Lena Headey and The Dinklage Cersei and Tyrion Lannister but some fans recently got that opportunity. They also got the first taste of the Game of Thrones / The Walking Dead crossover when Norman Reedus, AKA Daryl Dixon, popped up in the background.

Everything Wrong with Iron Man

I’m sure most of you have seen one of Cinema Sin‘s many videos about sins in modern movies. Their latest video happens to be about a movie that has a sequel coming out today. It’s everything wrong with Iron Man in four minutes.

The Cost of Being Iron Man (Infographic)

Iron Man 3 debuts in theatres this weekend in Canada and America. If you were basically anywhere else in the world, you’re a week ahead of us so no spoilers.

While Iron Man 3 is expected to be one of the biggest movies of the summer, the gross box office revenue isn’t going to be enough to pay for you to be Tony Stark. In fact, you’re likely to be somewhere in the neighbourhood of 90% short on funds based on the latest analysis of the cost of being Iron Man.
