The #98 Dogecoin Car Finishes 20th at Talladega

dogecoin-nascar-headerMuch draft. Very vroom. Such ‘Dega.

I may have been away last weekend but I was keeping close tabs on the NASCAR race from Talladega. That’s because the community over at /r/Dogecoin sponsored the #98 Phil Parsons Racing Ford for the race at Talladega. Their funding didn’t go unrewarded because the #98 Dogecoin car, piloted by Josh Wise, finished in 20th place on Sunday.

Comic Book Pull List for May 7, 2014

new-52-futures-end-1I read something the other day that said Stan Lee would much prefer that the world spells comic book as comicbook. He sees “comic book” as a funny book where comicbook means what he is iconic for writing. I don’t think he’s going to win that battle any time soon but at least people spell Spider-Man with the hyphen now, right?

Anyway, on to this week’s picks. Over at Marvel, we have our second straight Spider-Man debut on the pull list. This time, it’s a new man in the spider suit. It’s the debut (re-debut?) of Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man #1. DC Comics carries on with life without Forever Evil in an unconcluded Forever Evil universe as the Earth faces destruction and Batman Beyond is the only one who can help in New 52: Future’s End #1. Finally, Dynamite marks its 10th anniversary and Chaos’ 20th anniversary by relaunching Chaos in Chaos #1.

Game of Thrones: The First of His Name Review

game-of-thrones-iron-throne-headerI like when writers throw out a little surprise. For the most part, this episode was light on anything noteworthy. However, it had one massive tidbit of information that should have thrown everyone for a loop. I didn’t think that the episode would feature an almost throwaway line in the middle of the episode that would change everything that we thought we knew since episode one of the show. But if you’re going to change what we all thought for 35 episodes, this was the way to do it.

Geek Links of the Week

A quick programming note before we begin. There won’t be posts on Monday or Tuesday of next week but normal service will resume on Wednesday. I’ll try to get the weekly Game of Thrones review together by then.

How Much Would Jabba’s Palace Cost? (Infographic)

With the cast of the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII revealed, I think that it’s only appropriate to run a Star Wars edition of Movoto’s fantasy real estate valuation.

While I don’t think that the next Star Wars trilogy will make a return to Jabba’s Palace, I’d bet the Lars Family Moisture Farm that there will be a return to Tatooine. And there’s no better piece of real estate on the iconic desert planet than Jabba’s Palace. Once you get the Hutt and Rancor smells out of the place, it will set you back over 72 million Galactic Credits.

The FCC Chairman Wants to Give Up the Net Neutrality Fight

net-neutrality-bannerThe Chairman of the Federal Communications Commission, Tom Wheeler, seems to have given up his fight with Big Internet over Net Neutrality. Wheeler published a blog post on the FCC website in which he talked about the ongoing battle over the internet and frequently used the lobbyist terms “Open Internet” and “fast lanes.”

A Visual History Of Spider-Man’s Costume

If you’re in North America, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 comes out this week. If you’re elsewhere in the world, it’s already been out for a while (except for China and Cambodia who still have a short wait). My friend (and one-time etg contributor) Jackie already saw the movie in Australia and said that it does the multiple villain story far better than Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 did. That’s good news for Spidey fans because I was a little worried after seeing the trailer that ran before Captain America 2.

Anyway, to mark the opening of the latest Spidey movie, here’s a look back at the history of Spider-Man’s costumes, both in the comics and movies, in infographic form.
