Star Wars: Episode VII Cast Announced
The news that Star Wars fans have been waiting months for has finally been announced. LucasFilm has officially revealed the stars of the upcoming, untitled Star Wars: Episode VII. Along with some old favourites, some new actors and Hollywood legends have been added to the Star Wars universe.
First, let’s get through the returning friends. Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher will all return in the roles they made famous some 37 years ago. Also back from the original trilogy car Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker and Peter Mayhew.
Now, let’s look at some of the new actors. It was announced that John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow would be the new members of the Star Wars family to star in Episode VII.
Only two actors seem to have a role already reported in the rumour mill. The limited information coming out of the Skywalker Ranch shouldn’t be surprising considering how good they’ve been at keeping secrets over at LucasFilm.
Adam Driver is rumoured to play the feature villain in the new movie. It hasn’t been reported but given his track record, von Sydow would be appropriately cast as a villain as well. Oscar Isaac will also get a major role on the side of good.
Here’s the official LucasFilm statement in full:
The Star Wars team is thrilled to announce the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII.
Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.
Director J.J. Abrams says, “We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud.”
Star Wars: Episode VII is being directed by J.J. Abrams from a screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan and Abrams. Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Bryan Burk are producing, and John Williams returns as the composer. The movie opens worldwide on December 18, 2015.
So what does everyone think of the announced cast of Star Wars: Episode VII or are we going to wait until the film comes out to pass judgment?

I’ve not seen Daisy or Adam in anything yet, so I’m not sure how well they will fit in. As far as John, it’ll be nice to see him cast as something other than a street thug.
I am hoping van Sydow is a Sith. He would be excellent in that type of role.
I’m trying to get excited about this, but for some reason, I’m still a bit hesitant. Maybe once I start seeing footage I’ll begin to jump for joy.
