Gaikai Game Streaming Coming to PS4 in 2014

ps4-gaikai-headerWhen Sony bought the Gaikai game streaming service earlier last year and announced this year that it would be used to add backwards compatibility to the PlayStation 4, it certainly got people’s attention. Neither the PS4 nor the Xbox One offered native backwards compatibility and, properly implemented, using Gaikai could give Sony a leg up in the console war.

Now, Sony Computer Entertainment President Andrew House says that we can expect Gaikai to be rolled out starting in 2014.

Why Do You Get a Fever?

We don’t do sciency posts here very often but I figured that this is something that you need to see. With winter already here, chances are that you’re going to get a cold at some point and it’s likely to come with a fever. So why does that happen? Greg from Head Squeeze has the answer for you.

Building (Critical) Consensus: Tearaway

tearawar-box-art-ps-vitaDid you know that LittleBigPlanet was the first game developed by Media Molecule? LBP was one of the best games released on the PlayStation 3 and LBP2 really showed the potential of the PlayStation 3 and the PS3’s “Play. Create. Share.” line of games. Of course, leave it to Media Molecule to also make a must-own title for Sony’s PlayStation Vita handheld console.

According to critics, Tearaway has vaulted to the top of the list of must-own Vita games. Considering that the most common complaint about the Vita is a lack of worthwhile exclusives, Tearaway certainly makes a case that you don’t need to tie into a big PlayStation franchise to be a good Vita game. Critics loved the charm and the way the game used just about every aspect of the Vita.

The PS4 Has Already Outsold the Wii U in the UK

wii-u-vs-ps4-vs-xbox-oneI don’t want to sound like I’m slagging off Nintendo but this news should really worry some people back in Japan. In its first weekend on the market in the UK, the PlayStation 4 is already the top-selling next-gen console having beaten both the Xbox One and Wii U.

Comic Book Pull List for December 4, 2013

inhumanity-1It’s time for the first pull list of the month of December and it’s Marvel leading things off in both a good and bad way. One week after we read the conclusion of Marvel’s Infinity cross-over event, we get another big Avengers event starting in Inhumanity #1. The other notable Marvel release is one that I was warned about by one of the clerk’s at my local comic book shop. He mentioned Marvel was going to cash in on Amazing Spider-Man #700 by releasing special decimaled issues of Amazing Spider-Man. This first is out this week with Amazing Spider-Man #700.1.

Elsewhere, we have a debut and a conclusion for you this week. Debuting is a new Terminator series that chronicles the end of the Machine War, something that will no doubt be of massive interest to Terminator fans, in Terminator Salvation: The Final Battle #1. And The Mocking Dead miniseries wraps up this week. I suppose mocking zombie shows was a bit more fun when The Walking Dead still sucked. At least we got the final confrontation with The Governor, even if it was eight episodes too late.

amazon-prime-air-droneWhen you think of America and drones, you tend to think of the ones that the American military uses to drop bombs on unsuspecting targets. However, Amazon wants to change your perception of unmanned flying drones by using them to deliver packages to Amazon Prime customers.

grand-theft-auto-v-wallpaper-01There aren’t too many lawsuits in the gaming industry but this one is certainly going to get a bit of attention. Steam Autumn Sale: December 2, 2013

steam-autumn-sale-2013-headerThere’s only 23 hours left in the Steam Autumn Sale. I think we’re just about ready to declare a free-for-all on buying stuff you don’t want to wait until the Holiday Sale for. Keep in mind that this is the last set of Daily Deals but Flash Sales will still cycle through every eight hours.

It’s also important to keep in mind that Steam sale leak that we told you about in early November says that the regular sale discount (not the daily/flash sale discounts) will be the same both now and during the Holiday sale. If you miss something now, you can wait until the next sale and hope that it flashes to something better.

For now, though, there are a couple of good games up for grabs on the cheap. If you haven’t picked up Tomb Raider yet, this is the lowest I’ve seen it (and naturally, lower than what I bought it at). Also, Brutal Legend is on a flash sale for 90% off ($1.99) so if you have any interest, now is the time to buy it.

The History of Doctor Who Easter Eggs in Gaming

In last week’s Geek Links of the Week, we featured a link to all the Easter eggs in the Doctor Who 50th anniversary special that called back to the show’s history. Today, we have a video of all the Doctor Who Easter eggs that have been hidden through the history of video games.

Building (Critical) Consensus: Fighter Within

fighter-within-box-artBack when I did the Hype Train post about the Xbox One, I said that we had to wait for some games that used the Kinect as a motion controller before we could actually say whether the upgraded camera was worth the hype and extra $100 asking price. Well, little did I know that there was a fighting game that used the Kinect as a controller.

Well, Fighter Within was a third-party exclusive fighter for the Xbox One that was buried in the Xbox One launch line-up. It’s easy to see why it wasn’t promoted. This game just doesn’t work. Whether it’s a matter of the software not being programmed well enough to use the Kinect or whether the Kinect 2.0 isn’t any better as a controller won’t be determined until we get the next Kinect 2.0 game. For now, the consensus is that Fighter Within is awful and so is the Kinect 2.0.
