Some People were Quite Shocked by Game of Thrones

Having not read the books yet, Sunday’s episode of Game of Thrones certainly caught me off-guard. It was definitely a big “did that just happen” moment though I’ll definitely be back for this week’s season finale. However, there were some people who were well and truly shocked and upset after watching the most recent episode. Those people make great viewing for us thanks to YouTube.

By the way, the video is probably a bit spoilerish so if you haven’t seen last week’s episode and haven’t read the books: Spoilers…

This Fan-Made Doctor Who Teaser is Better than What BBC Will Give Us

It’s only been a couple of weeks but I miss my weekend episodes of Doctor Who. Maybe I’ll go back and review classic Who to fill in some of the six months between now and November’s 50th Anniversary special.

For now, this Monday with Who (I’ll come up with a better series title for Monday Doctor Who posts) I have a fan made teaser trailer for the 50th Anniversary special.

PS: I’m allowed to refer to The Doctor as Doctor Who as his proper name. It was established in canon in The War Machines.

Game of StarCraft

I’ve missed my Friday Game of Thrones posts. I’m actually kind of shocked that I haven’t done a single GoT post in four weeks. Fortunately, I have something cool for you today.

YouTube user Tolkfan has put together the Game of Thrones intro using StarCraft footage. It’s pretty damn cool and very reminiscent of the real intro.

Cloud’s Buster Sword is Real and Ridiculous

As cool as Sephiroth and his sword was in Final Fantasy VII, Cloud’s famous Buster Sword was on another level of sheer over-the-top insanity. Sure, Sephiroth’s sword was long but it was closer to an up-scaled letter opener than a sword. The Buster Sword, on the other hand, looks like it could slice someone clean in two.

So it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that when the folks on YouTube’s AweMeChannel, it was the biggest sword they ever build.

Will & Jaden Smith, DJ Jazzy Jeff and Alfonso Ribeiro Take Over The Graham Norton Show

I don’t know if this falls under what we typically do as geek culture coverage but it’s my blog and I love this video so I say we’re watching this. Will and Jaden Smith were on the BBC’s Graham Norton Show to promote a movie when they dropped a couple of massive surprises. You can watch the whole thing but the fun really starts to pick up at about 1:45.

Doctor Who’s Fakest Websites

Without a new episode of Doctor Who this weekend, I’m a little lost. I don’t know about you but it takes me a bit to adjust when a show that was appointment viewing for me ends its run. To help tide you (and I) over for a bit, here’s a video of the fakest websites and apps featured on Doctor Who. Maybe we should write it off a wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey.

Relive the Downfall of Rapture in a BioShock Fan Film

So the planned BioShock film helmed by director Gore Verbinski didn’t work out but that doesn’t mean that we’ll never have a live-action return to Rapture.

A group of Vancouver film students did their own short fan film looking at the rise of plasmids and the downfall of Rapture from the prospectives of two brothers who travelled to the underwater city to be artists. I call it a fan film but the sets, props and special effects are absolutely fantastic. You mean to tell me that students can manage this but Hollywood can’t do it without breaking the bank?

The Xbox One Announcement in 100 Seconds

Okay, I might have come off a bit cynical in my examination of the Xbox One announcement. In fairness, I tried the best I could given the information at hand. There just wasn’t a lot of talk about games. Don’t take my word for it. Check out this short summary of the Xbox One reveal.

Patton Oswalt’s Vision for Star Wars Episode VII Gets Animated

Patton Oswalt’s seven-and-a-half minute citizen’s filibuster of Pawnee City Council outlining his vision for Star Wars: Episode VII has been animated by Isaac Moores. It’s just as epic as the first time you saw it.

Before the Doctor Who Finale, Check Out This Teaser

The BBC calls it a prequel to tomorrow night’s season finale of Doctor Who but I refuse to call it such a daft title. It’s a short-form teaser about what we can expect to be revealed in tomorrow night’s episode of Doctor Who. Mild spoilers follow.
