PlayStation 4 Plans to Release More Exclusives Than Xbox One
While Microsoft came out guns-a-blazing at their May console launch in promising exclusives for their new console. Along with the console, they announced that the Xbox One would get 15 exclusive games during the console’s first year and eight of those will be from new franchises.
Now, Sony is firing back with their own big line-up of first year PlayStation 4 exclusives. Sony Computer Entertainment Europe CEO Jim Ryan told Gamereactor that the PlayStation 4 can expect 20 exclusives on the console in the first year after release with 12 of them being new IPs.
E3 2013: Sony Wins the Next Generation in June
Sony had one simple mission heading into their 2013 E3 press conference: Don’t screw it up! Microsoft handed Sony an absolute gift at every turn from the Xbox One’s DRM to privacy issues to used games to rentals to the price.
Not only did Sony not screw up their press conference, they committed the video game console equivalent to homicide. Sony played the Rains of Castamere live on stage and slew the Xbox One in a bloody and violent way that saw them destroy Microsoft’s next-generation challenger in every way possible. Even George R.R. Martin was shocked at the carnage.
Building (Critical) Consensus: The Last of Us
As the current console generation slowly grinds to a close, the quality of games has gone up a notch this year as developers are able to get every last bit of performance out of the technology. The result is games that are visually stunning while still having a compelling narrative and fun gameplay.
While we’ve had couple of early game of the year contenders in Tomb Raider and BioShock Infinite and a couple more coming up later in Grand Theft Auto V and Beyond: Two Souls, this week’s big release just vaulted to the top of the list. Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us came in with massive hype because of who was developing it, even if it could have ended up being just another zombie game.
Instead, as seems to be the case for Naughty Dog releases during this generation, The Last of Us may not just be the game of the year but the best game released on the PlayStation 3 and one of the greatest games ever made.
Gran Turismo 6 is Coming This Fall for the PS3
This week, Polyphony Digital officially announced the worst kept secret in gaming. Gran Turismo 6 will be hitting store shelves this holiday season, assuming in doesn’t suffer the same eight month delay that Gran Turismo 5 had.
Despite the fact that the PlayStation 4 is coming out this fall, Polyphony Digital’s latest effort isn’t going to be a launch title for the next-gen system. Instead, Sony’s signature racing series, that has sold enough copies of GT5 that they’ve sold one copy for every eight PS3 consoles sold, will be a PlayStation 3 exclusive.
Polyphony Teases Gran Turismo 6 Announcement Next Week
Back in March, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Senior Vice President Michael Denny seemed to let the cat out of the bag that the next instalment in the Gran Turismo series might be coming out this year. Now, GT devs Polyphony Digital are doing their own teasing of the next Gran Turismo game.
Building (Critical) Consensus: God of War: Ascension
Has Kratos worn out his welcome? God of War: Ascension is the fourth game in the God of War series for the PlayStation home consoles. The GameRankings and Metacritic scores for each of the first three games were 92 or higher. The aggregated scores for Ascension are around 80%.
Critics haven’t taken to GoW: Ascension quite like they did with the numbered GoW trilogy but does that mean that this is a bad game? Read the rest of this entry
Is Gran Turismo 6 Coming This Year?
As a PlayStation guy, the discussion of road car, grand touring and sports car racing sims begins and ends with the Gran Turismo series. Even my friends who weren’t racing fans talked about the game and I can remember one long and heated discussion about the relative 180 made in handling models from GT1 to GT2.
According to an interview with Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Senior Vice President Michael Denny, it looks as though Gran Turismo 5 wasn’t our only taste of Polyphony Digital’s epic racing series on the PlayStation 3. Denny might have let it slip that Gran Turismo 6 will be out this year. Read the rest of this entry
