The Successor to Eternal Darkness “Shadow of the Eternals” Hits Kickstarter

shadow-of-the-eternalsMature-rated games aren’t exactly common on Nintendo consoles but that doesn’t mean that they didn’t exist. One of the best games you never heard of on the GameCube was the survival horror Eternal Darkness by Silicon Knights.

Silicon Knights may have died some years ago as a result of a lawsuit but from its ashes has risen Precursor Games and they’re bringing back their iconic game with a spiritual successor with the episodic Shadow of the Eternals. To do so, you need to give them a little help on Kickstarter.

This Fan-Made Doctor Who Teaser is Better than What BBC Will Give Us

It’s only been a couple of weeks but I miss my weekend episodes of Doctor Who. Maybe I’ll go back and review classic Who to fill in some of the six months between now and November’s 50th Anniversary special.

For now, this Monday with Who (I’ll come up with a better series title for Monday Doctor Who posts) I have a fan made teaser trailer for the 50th Anniversary special.

PS: I’m allowed to refer to The Doctor as Doctor Who as his proper name. It was established in canon in The War Machines.

Geek Links of the Week

Nilay Patel tried out the new Google Glass at the Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600 this past Sunday. When it worked, it worked well. However, there’s still some work to be done on it. [The Verge]

EVE Online might not be a game you’ve played but it’s definitely one you heard about because of massive PVP battles like the recent Battle of Asakai that saw 10% of all players logged in participate in the fight. [Gaming Trend]

Game of StarCraft

I’ve missed my Friday Game of Thrones posts. I’m actually kind of shocked that I haven’t done a single GoT post in four weeks. Fortunately, I have something cool for you today.

YouTube user Tolkfan has put together the Game of Thrones intro using StarCraft footage. It’s pretty damn cool and very reminiscent of the real intro.

Element4l Review: Slip Sliding Away

element4l-logoSometimes, I need to play a game that’s on the calm side. As fun as driving cars at speeds approaching 200 MPH and shooting baddies with overpowered weapons is, I like to throw a quiet game into the rotation to mix things up. Lately, that’s been the oddly spelled but appropriately titled puzzle platformer Element4l.

Building (Critical) Consensus: Grid 2

grid-2-box-artCodemasters and race sims goes hand-in-hand. As much as I like the F1 and Dirt series, I absolutely loved the TOCA series. Sadly, that series is dead. It’s now the hybrid arcade/sim Race Driver: Grid series which was shortened to just Grid for the second iteration in the series.

Grid 2 tries to find the middle-ground between a sim racer and an arcade racer. Some critics think it hits the mark while others find the opponent AI to hamper what could be a good experience. And let’s not mention all the fun Day One DLC you missed out on by not pre-ordering the game. Did you know that Codemasters has ESPN tie-ins with Grid 2. So does EA with its sports games. Can’t be a coincidence given the DLC BS.

Space Combat Sim “GoD Factory: Wingmen” Needs Your Money on Kickstarter

god-factory-wingmen-screenshot-01I’ve been waiting a long while for a solid space sim. I was hoping that Rogue System would be that game but, unfortunately, their Kickstarter didn’t work out. Now, there’s a Canadian company that’s giving me hope. Quebec’s Nine Dots Studios needs your help to make their epic looking GoD Factory: Wingmen a reality.

Shepard Has a New Plan to Defeat the Reapers

If the whole Prothean super weapon thing doesn’t go well for Commander Shepard, she has to have another plan up her sleeve. Fortunately for the galaxy, she’s been hard at work on a new plan to stop the Reapers.

Raphael Sbarge Reveals His Script Notes for Mass Effect 3: Citadel DLC

One of the great things about the internet and social media is the little behind the scenes looks at just about everything. That includes AAA games. At a convention last weekend, Raphael Sbarge (AKA Kaidan Alenko) revealed some of the direction that he and the other actors were given ahead of recording the final scene of Mass Effect 3’s Citadel DLC. If you’ve played the DLC, you’ll probably love it.
