Doctor Who: Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS Review

doctor-who-journey-to-the-centre-of-the-tardis-posterSome episodes are easy to sum up in the opening tease of a review but Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS is definitely not one of those episodes. There was a mix of action, suspense, intrigue and wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey to make for a fun episode. And there was even an unofficial tour of the TARDIS to boot.

Because It’s So Awesome, Here’s Patton Oswalt’s Vision for Star Wars Episode VII

I know that I linked to Patton Oswalt’s Star Wars Episode VII filibuster from Parks and Recreation in last week’s Geek Links of the Week. However, it’s far too awesome to relegate to just a link in a linkdump. It’s deserving of its own post.

Doctor Who – Hide Review

doctor-who-hide-posterIt’s always nice when Doctor Who does a horror episode. It sure has come a long way from an educational-ish program in the 1960s to today. I find it kind of funny that the rebooted Doctor Who does the horror episodes better than the time travelling or The Doctor doing battle with classic foes. That was definitely the case with this week’s Hide.

Game of Dinklage

Along with many geeks (and lovers of good TV), I love Game of Thrones. The last time someone asked me who my favourite character was, I answered with one word: Dinklage. I know that I should have said Tyrion but Tyrion Lannister just wouldn’t be half as awesome a half-man if it wasn’t for Peter Dinklage.

Now, you can catch all of The Dinklage’s greatness in a short compilation of all of Tyrion’s greatest quips and one-liners.

He’s Still Super: A New Man of Steel Trailer is Out

As a Superman fan, I am equal parts excited and scared of the upcoming Superman re-reboot Man of Steel. On the one hand, Christopher Nolan is involved as a producer and he brought rebooted Batman back from a joke to something closer to the comics. On the other hand, Man of Steel is being directed by Zack Snyder of 300, Watchmen and Sucker Punch fame. That’s reason to be nervous.

However, the latest trailer for Man of Steel has me optimistic for June. After all, more Jor-El, more Jonathan Kent and more Lois Lane is a good thing.

Kirk Needs a Bigger Ship in the Latest Star Trek Into Darkness Trailer

The third Star Trek Into Darkness trailer brings us a little less Cumberbatch and a lot more Kirk as we finally get to see a bit more of what the crew of the Enterprise is up against.

In the last trailer, Cumberbatch came off as smarter and more charismatic than Kirk. Now, Cumberbatch comes off as a bit crazier and much scarier thanks to his massive ship with epic armaments. Kirk looks to be in over his head and has gotten his ship in and crew into some pretty deep shit.

Star Trek Into Darkness is hits theatres on May 17th.

What if Disney Made Game of Thrones?

That’s a frightening thought but the result is a fantastic video. So what would Game of Thrones look like (and sound like) if it was done in typical Disney fashion? In this video, Daenerys and Ser Jorah have a duet in the classic Disney princess style.

George R. R. Martin would be spinning in his grave at the thought of this. Wait, he’s still alive? How bloody long is he planning to take to write the last two books?

Doctor Who – Cold War Review

doctor-who-cold-war-posterWhat happens when the TARDIS acts up with one of its occasional bouts of having a mind of its own? The Doctor and Clara end up trapped on a Soviet nuclear submarine at the height of the Cold War with an old enemy who just happens to be hell-bent on destruction. Don’t you just hate it when you have a day like that?

Is Community A Postmodern Masterpiece?

As a geek blogger, it kind of goes without saying that I’m a huge fan of the NBC sitcom Community. While, this season hasn’t grabbed me in the same was as past years, it’s still a damn good series. So good, in fact, that PBS has taken notice of it. The question of life, the universe and everything: Is Community a great postmodern TV show?

By the way, Community is on tonight at 8:00 PM on NBC.

Merle Lives! (On Conan)

Last week, Conan took his show to TBS’s home town of Atlanta, Georgia. Not only is Atlanta home to the Turner media empire, including TBS, TNT and the former WCW, but several TV shows are filmed in Atlanta. One paid a visit to Conan’s set and it just happened to be the most popular show on cable.
