Admit it, the internet was created to share pictures and videos of cats. The sooner you accept that, the sooner you can enjoy all the wonders of the internet. To help you figure out what kinds of cat pictures and videos you can find around the internet or just to help you figure out what various social media sites are about, we have this comic that describes the internet using cats.

After months of rumours and speculation, Microsoft finally let the Windows 8 upgrade cat out of the bag. Formerly known internally as Windows Blue, Windows 8.1 will be a free upgrade to Windows 8 and Windows RT that will be available from the Windows home screen when it is officially released later this year.
Reports Say YouTube is Launching Paid Subscriptions
Last week, we mentioned that Facebook was planning to supplement its revenue by launching a paid private messaging service. Now, reports suggest that YouTube could be launching its own new paid service to put some more money in Google’s pockets.
Bitcoin Transactions are Taxable in Canada
April 30th is the deadline to file your personal income tax return in Canada. If you haven’t filed your taxes yet (and aren’t self-employed), you might want to get that taken care of but should take note of the latest tax edict from Canada Revenue Agency.
In response to an inquiry by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation about it, the CRA has said that just because Bitcoin purchases and sales are done online doesn’t mean that they are exempt from tax. The use of bitcoins are considered taxable by Canada’s tax authority.
Samsung Unveils Galaxy S 4
Just when you thought that BlackBerry had gotten back in the game, Samsung officially unveiled their new flagship mobile phone for the Android platform.
The Samsung Galaxy S 4 isn’t a revolutionary new phone but it certainly is a step above the GS3. It is also, on paper, a step above the iPhone 5. You have to wonder if Apple doesn’t answer the bell with the iPhone 6 (or 5S, which ever they launch this year) if they will start to noticeably lose market share to Samsung and Android.
Learn About Voice Acting with Commander Shepard and Liara T’Soni
I didn’t want to turn this week into Mass Effect 3 Week Part Two but we’re getting close to that. The team of Holly Conrad, a noted Commander Shepard cosplayer and costume designer, and Jessica Merizan, a community manager at BioWare and also a FemShep cosplayer, also known as Crabcat Industries, show you how to build your own soundproof booth (which, ironically, looks more professional than the booths they had at the campus radio station at my alma mater).
They also talk to Jennifer Hale and Ali Hillis, AKA FemShep and Liara from the Mass Effect trilogy (or Bastila Shan from KOTOR and Lightning from FF13), about voice acting. If you’re interested voice acting or are a huge Mass Effect fan, you probably should give this a watch.
RIM Officially Launches BB10, Changes Company Name to BlackBerry
The Canadian national nightmare is finally over. RIM has finally officially announced the launch of its much-anticipated BlackBerry 10 operating system and the first two phones to use their new OS, the BlackBerry Z10 and the BlackBerry Q10.
Oh, and Research In Motion decided that now was a very good time to rebrand the whole company. From today, RIM is dead. Long live BlackBerry! I mean, RIM has changed its name to BlackBerry. Makes sense. Everyone called it that anyway. Read the rest of this entry
Kim Dotcom is Back with Mega
The biggest name in online file sharing is back. Kim Dotcom, the founder of Megaupload and its associated sister sites, marked Saturday’s one year anniversary of Megaupload being shut by unveiling his new online file sharing service Mega. The site looks to be bigger and better than its predecessor site and the big splash among users seems to back that up. Read the rest of this entry
Do Bedside Gadgets Affect How You Sleep? (Infographic)
Most people I know keep their cell phones close at hand at night. They’ll send texts or check Facebook from their phone right before going to sleep. They also have no issue with getting up when the phone buzzes with a late night drunk text, either. On the other hand, I’ll shut off my phone before going to sleep because I need enough caffeine to get through the day with a steady night’s sleep that I don’t need a phone making it worse.
So who is doing it right? Does having a phone or other gadget affect how you sleep? This handy infographic has the answer. Read the rest of this entry
