WRC 5 Review: Dirty Rally

wrc5-headerOne of our unanticipated annual traditions on et geekera is the review of some annual sports franchises in the fall. In the next little bit, we’ll review Football Manager 2016 (the third entry we’ve reviewed in our under three years of existence) and Franchise Hockey Manager 2 will be the latest addition to the lineup of sport reviews. But the one I’ve been doing the longest between etg and The Lowdown is WRC. After a year’s hiatus, the World Rally Championship game is back. While much has changed, a lot still stays the same.

Batman: Arkham Knight Gets Re-Released on PC, Still Broken

batman-arkham-knight-headerIt’s been four months since its release and hasty withdrawal from sale but Batman: Arkham Knight is back on sale. The final part of Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham trilogy was such an unmitigated disaster on PC that it was withdrawn from sale and subject to an unconditional refund through Steam.

After nearly four months of work, Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment has re-released Arkham Knight. And they almost instantly extended the unconditional refund availability to a deadline of the end of 2015. Yes, it’s still fairly broken.

Doctor Who: The Zygon Invasion Review

doctor-who-the-zygon-inversion-headerThanks to giving out candy, I was late to the start of this week’s episode of Doctor Who. Thanks to the magic of a DVR, I was able to rewind to the start but I came in at the point where Clara was non-chalantly watching an abduction in a barely lit apartment. It was a pretty good scene to start on when you consider that it was aired on Halloween.

So was this week’s episode a proper Halloween episode? I’m not sure I’d go that far but I would say that it was a promising start to the Zygon two-parter.

Life is Strange – Episode Five Review: Time of Your Life

life-is-strange-episode-five-headerIt’s so seldom that I play a game that really moves me. Sure, there are plenty of games that I play that I think are really good or have their poignant moments but I can’t remember the last time I played a game that stuck with me quite the way that Life is Strange has. I came into it expecting to be underwhelmed but Dontnod exceeded all of my expectations and made the best episodic point-and-click adventure game on the market.

eSports Weekend Calendar: October 30 – November 1, 2015

This is a big weekend in the world of eSports for two reasons.

The big reason is the 2015 League of Legends World Championship wraps up on Saturday with the Grand Final between SK Telecom and Koo Tigers. Worlds is one of the most watched sporting events in the world and two of Korea’s best going should be a pretty intense matchup even if we expect Faker and MaRin to cement their status as two of the best in the world.

On the other side of the world, the Road to BlizzCon nears its conclusion. Two rounds of 16 will take place at ESL’s studio in Burbank ahead of next weekend’s tournaments at BlizzCon. On Friday and Saturday, Hearthstone’s World Championship group stages will wrap up to set the stage for the playoffs in Anaheim. Sunday is all about StarCraft’s WCS Global Finals round of 16 where we’ll be watching to see how far the lone foreigner, French Protoss Lilbow, can go.

Where in the World is Hideo Kojima?

hideo-kojima-headerLong before Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was released and received reviews that put it on the shortest of shortlists for Game of the Year, rumours were abound about Hideo Kojima’s status with Konami. Reports said he was taken off the project. His name was taken off the cover of MGSV. However, the official stance is that everything was normal. In the two months since the game’s release,

Last week, the story got new life with a New Yorker article that said Kojima left the company near the beginning of October, even having a goodbye party on his last Friday at Konami. For their part, Konami disagrees.
