Amazon.com Increases Free Shipping Minimum to $35
Bad news for folks who like saving on shipping when buying from Amazon. For the first time in over a decade, Amazon.com has increased the minimum purchase price to qualify for their Free Super Saver Shipping on items shipped in the United States. Now, rather than getting free shipping at $25, you’ll now need to spend $35.
I probably don’t have to add much to the story after that. However, it’s probably worth noting that Amazon has a reputation for producing small profits given the revenue it brings in. Its low margins are likely a result of all the free shipping they’re giving away. Amazon says that this changed threshold will be accompanied by an increase in the number of items eligible for Super Saver Shipping.
By the way, Canadian customers don’t have to worry yet. I checked and the Free Super Saver Shipping threshold is still at $25. Hopefully that holds through Christmas. I found a replacement for one of my dog’s favourite toys that she’s beaten to hell and back. I think she needs a backup just in case.
