What to Expect From Tomorrow’s Xbox Announcement

xbox-720-logo-conceptWe’re just a short few hours from the big next-generation Xbox console. I’d like to say that it’s going to be the Xbox 720 but we really don’t know what it will be called yet. Heck, two weeks ago, we were all convinced that it would be called the Xbox Infinity before we found out that the name and logo was a hoax.

Before we all gather ’round to watch Microsoft’s big show, we take a look at the news and rumours about the final next-gen console to be revealed.

Doctor Who: The Name of The Doctor Review

doctor-who-the-name-of-the-doctor-posterWell, Saturday night’s season finale of Doctor Who happened. I’m not really sure how else to introduce it. Even taking a day to digest that episode, I’m not really sure what to think of it. I never went into it thinking that Steven Moffat would give The Doctor a proper Gallifreyan name but that was my only expectation going into this episode.

What we got was an episode that relied heavily on doses of nostalgia and Matt Smith’s acting to get us by. Not surprisingly, it answered some questions about Clara and asked some new ones for the 50th Anniversary Special.

Geek Links of the Week

I really wanted to write about the Season 4 downfall of Community and why I would have been content rather than upset if it was cancelled. Instead, I’ll leave it to the more eloquent Rob Payne. [Pajiba]

Former THQ and Naughty Dog boss Jason Rubin explains all the hardship endured by 4A Games in developing Metro: Last Light that you will never see mentioned in any story or review about the game. [GamesIndustry]

This week on the sister site, I continue my crusade against the endless string of soulless, money-grabbing franchises being pumped out by publishers. What happened to fresh IPs? [The Lowdown Blog]

This Halo Wedding Ring is Pretty Cool

I’ve never really understood what everyone sees in Halo. Maybe it’s because I was late to the game with the PC port but I never really got why it has such a massive following.

I will admit, though, that this custom-made wedding ring for a Kotaku reader that recreates the Halo from the first game is pretty damn cool.

Gran Turismo 6 is Coming This Fall for the PS3

gran-turismo-6-logoThis week, Polyphony Digital officially announced the worst kept secret in gaming. Gran Turismo 6 will be hitting store shelves this holiday season, assuming in doesn’t suffer the same eight month delay that Gran Turismo 5 had.

Despite the fact that the PlayStation 4 is coming out this fall, Polyphony Digital’s latest effort isn’t going to be a launch title for the next-gen system. Instead, Sony’s signature racing series, that has sold enough copies of GT5 that they’ve sold one copy for every eight PS3 consoles sold, will be a PlayStation 3 exclusive.

Before the Doctor Who Finale, Check Out This Teaser

The BBC calls it a prequel to tomorrow night’s season finale of Doctor Who but I refuse to call it such a daft title. It’s a short-form teaser about what we can expect to be revealed in tomorrow night’s episode of Doctor Who. Mild spoilers follow.

Everything Wrong with Abrams’ Star Trek

With Star Trek Into Darkness (which inexplicably doesn’t have a colon in the title) coming out tomorrow, what better time is there to look at everything wrong with 2009’s Star Trek reboot.

EA Launching DICE LA Studio to Work on Star Wars Games

star-wars-battlefront-3-bannerEA’s policy of cutting jobs and whole studios to save money has to be undone for the publisher to get to work on their new exclusive Star Wars license. New job postings show that EA’s DICE studio, the developer of the Battlefield franchise and one of three EA devs working on Star Wars, will be opening a studio in Los Angeles.
