Yahtzee Really Hates Ride to Hell: Retribution

What happens when a well and truly terrible game lands in the hands of games critic Ben “Yahtzee” Croshaw? You’d expect him to explode with great new Yahtzee-isms. He definitely does come up with some great metaphors but he seems more amused by how bad the game is than anything else. He actually recommends it too.

How Man Of Steel Should Have Ended

I quite enjoyed Man of Steel. It hit enough of the usual comic book lore moments while still having its own unique story elements to set it apart from the typical DC Comics lore. It was also a pretty good summer blockbuster popcorn movie at the same time.

However, it wasn’t perfect. I thought the end fight could have lost 15 to 30 minutes without hurting the movies. Fortunately for me, the gang from HISHE kind of agree with that.

The Ultimate Warrior Returns to the WWE in WWE 2K14

The kid in me is marking out right now. The man, the myth, the legend known as The Ultimate Warrior is coming to WWE 2K14 as a pre-order bonus. I’m very much against pre-ordering games but as a fan of wrestling back in golden age of the late 80s and early 90s, I need to get my hands on a wrestling game with Warrior in it!

No mortal can withstand the gods of warriors past unleashing the power of the Warrior and all the little warriors coming on the spaceship from Parts Unknown!

Surgery Simulator is Good for a Laugh

Well, I picked up Surgery Simulator 2013 using the money I made from selling those useless trading cards. It was probably a bad decision but I’m stuck with it now. Even if it’s not the best gaming experience ever, it’s certainly good for a laugh.

Square Shows Off the HD Improvements in Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster

You know, I was really excited for Square Enix’s upcoming re-release of Final Fantasy X and X-2. Shockingly, they stand as the only two FF games I’ve played to completion even though they aren’t my favourite FF games. (FFIX FTW!)

This week, SquEnix released a comparison video of the original SD version of FFX for the PS2 and the updated HD Remaster. I have to say, apart from some updated textures, smoothing and colour brightening, there doesn’t seem to be much remastered.

I wasn’t expecting the game to be completely rebuilt in FFXIII’s engine but a little work on those character models wouldn’t have hurt. Just look at the hair and outfits. That was good 12 years ago but I supposed quick cash-ins on classic games is what happens when console manufacturers kill backwards compatibility. Tidus still looks likes he’s pawing at thin air rather than touching Yuna. At least the environments look relatively okay. Maybe it gets better in action.

Anyway, here’s that comparison video.

A Damn Fine Twin Peaks Coffee Supercut

I don’t know if I ever mentioned this but I’m a huge fan of Twin Peaks. I’m also a fan of damn fine coffee. So of course I’m going to run this Twin Peaks pie and coffee supercut. You know, I really should find a copy of Deadly Premonition.

Wouldst Thou Read William Shakespeare’s Star Wars?

Normally when I look at mashups, it’s of two sci-fi properties. Now, you can read modern sci-fi and classic drama mashed up in William Shakespeare’s Star Wars.

This book is the classic Star Wars story reimagined as a Shakespearean play complete with classic lingo and iambic pentameter. And the actors threatened to make George read his dialogue. What would they do if they saw this dialogue?

Get Your First Taste of Grand Theft Auto V in This Gameplay Trailer

We’ve already seen a few trailers for Grand Theft Auto V but haven’t seen how it will play yet. Today, Rockstar changed that with their first gameplay trailer for this fall’s big release.

Not only did we get to see the game in action but we saw a new swapping between characters on the fly mechanic which looks pretty cool. Rockstar also showed off new game mechanics, minigames and teased an online component to the game. I wasn’t particularly excited before but this certainly got my attention.

Orlando Bloom Covers the Iconic “They’re Taking the Hobbits to Isengard” Song

Many, many years ago, when autotuning, songifying and mashups didn’t really exist to the level they do now, a man made a Lord of the Rings song that prominently featured Legolas yelling “They’re taking the hobbits to Isengard!” Well, about seven years after it first hit YouTube and over 12 million views, Orlando Bloom finally saw it. He and the crew of The Hobbit had a little fun with it on Bloom’s last day on set.

David Lynch Directed a Nine Inch Nails Music Video

Nine Inch Nails have a new album coming out in September so singles and videos for those singles are already dropping to promote the upcoming release. For their first single, Came Back Haunted, NiN has called in the legendary David Lynch to direct the music video.

This being a Lynch video, it’s dark and bizarre. Basically, it’s vintage David Lynch and I love it. The video also comes with a seizure warning for anyone who might not take well to quick flashing colours in the video.
