How Much Does a Kingdom Under the Mountain Cost?

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (which I’ve heard pronounced no less than a dozen different ways) comes out in theatres tomorrow. Unless you’re my sister who somehow managed to score tickets to an early showing tonight…

Anyway, the second part of The Hobbit trilogy will introduce us to the dragon Smaug and his lair, the  the Kingdom Under the Mountain, Erebor. To celebrate the release of the new movie, our friends at Movoto valued Erebor which is priced to move seeing as it’s the perfect size for numerous dwarf families (or one dragon).

Dreamhack Winter in Numbers

It’ll be a while before eSports ever gets the credit it deserves from the mainstream establishment but that doesn’t mean that it already isn’t a massive industry. The recently held Dreamhack Winter 2013 had over 20,000 visitors on-site, almost 8 million unique views of the live streams, a near half-a-million dollar prize pool and a live performance by Darude.

For this and more neat info about Dreamhack Winter 2013, we have a handy infographic for your perusal.

Crime Does Pay: The Real-World Price of Homes in GTA5

So Trevor’s trailer out in the desert away from Los Santos isn’t exactly the sort of place that you would show off but Michael and Franklin sure live in some pretty nice homes in Los Santos.

As anyone who games knows, the economics of a game is very different from the economics of real life. So how much would buying a house like the one’s featured in Grand Theft Auto V cost you? Our friends at Movato did some valuation work and came up with the multi-million dollar answer.

Net Neutrality is Under Threat in the United States

I generally don’t succumb to hyperbole so believe me when I say that this could end up being the single most important story that we cover on this blog.

Currently, the internet in America is governed by the principle of net neutrality. This means that all data on the internet is treated equally and that internet service providers can’t charge for access to certain content on the internet. Now, Verizon is taking the Federal Communications Commission to court to get net neutrality abolished. If the court rules in Verizon’s favour, the results could be catastrophic.

For more about the case and what it means, we have a handy infographic for your perusal.

PlayStation 4 vs. Xbox One: The Infographic

We’re officially four weeks from the launch of the next-gen consoles (five weeks if you’re outside North America). While you’re unlikely to get your hands on a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One any time soon if you haven’t already pre-ordered one. Still, that doesn’t mean that the console wars are going to cool down anytime soon.

Today, to mark the final month before the next generation of the home console gets well and truly underway, here’s an infographic comparing the two consoles.

The Evolution of Wolverine’s Costume (Infographic)

Since The Wolverine hit theatres this weekend, what better time to take a visual look back at Wolverine over time. If you’ve only ever seen Hugh Jackman as Wolverine in the live action X-Men movies, we’d understand how you wouldn’t know that Wolverine’s outfit is traditionally yellow and blue since you’ve only really seen him in black leather. However, there’s more to Wolverine’s look than blue, yellow and black.

The Price of Luigi’s Mansion (Infographic)

He might be Mario’s less popular and less heralded brother but he still has a very nice place to live. While Mario, presumably, gets to crash at Princess Peach’s $950 million castle, Luigi has his own pretty cool and very expensive mansion that he lives in. Well, when he clears the ghosts out of there, he can live in there.

Will The Xbox One Be Your Overly Attached Girlfriend?

Microsoft might have gotten rid of the online check-in DRM requirements for the Xbox One but doesn’t mean that it isn’t still watching you. We’ve all read that it’s built around advertising with the Kinect integral to making that advertising work better for advertisers. The Kinect always watching and Microsoft’s compliance in giving data to the NSA doesn’t make me feel better about it.

So is the Xbox One going to be like a clingy girlfriend? The folks at Kensington make that case in a handy infographic.

The Evolution of Superman’s Shield (Infographic)

It’s a common phrase from classic Superman stories. “It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s Superman! … I think it’s Superman. He looks a little different, don’t you think?”

Okay, that hasn’t actually been said but you could certainly understand why someone would say it. Over the 75 years since Superman made his first appearance in Action Comics #1, he’s changed his look a few times. In fact, the man of steel has sported over 20 different looks between comics, movies and TV.

For a timeline at those different looks, we have a handy infographic to show all of Supes different costumes.

The State of Gaming in 2013 (Infographic)

The 2013 edition of the Electronic Entertainment Expo, also known as E3, officially kicks off tomorrow but the show really kicks off today with the big keynote presentations by the big names. Importantly, we’re about three hours from Microsoft’s Xbox One presentation and about twelve hours from the PlayStation 4 event.

We’ll have full recaps of the two keynotes tomorrow but let’s head into E3 with this look at the current state of gaming. This infographic looks at how gamers play, what they spend their money on and their thoughts on the next generation of consoles.
