Game Trailers Roundup for May 9, 2016

If ever there was a week to check out all of the big video game trailers in one spot, it’s this week. This week’s roundup is only eight trailers long and it loaded with amazing trailers.

First up are two launch trailers for triple-A games. Tomorrow is the launch of Uncharted 4 (review likely coming in the next couple of weeks) and Friday is the launch of Doom. We have both launch trailers. And the two big triple-A military shooter franchises had announcement trailers for their next games. From Activision is Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare while EA goes old school with Battlefield 1.

Clash Royale Review: Dealing from the Bottom of the Deck

clash-royale-bannerNow that I’ve got a phone that’s less than three years old, I can finally start reviewing mobile games. Let’s start with one of the latest games to top the mobile games charts.

Supercell had a hit on its hands with Clash of Clans. The tower defense game still sits near the top of Google’s top grossing games chart. For their follow-up, they took many of the elements of Clash of Clans and distilled it into a competitive multiplayer strategy game called Clash Royale.

The Walking Dead: Michonne – Episode Two Review: No Shelter Given

the-walking-dead-michonne-episode-two-headerA while back, I wondered if Telltale Games had spread itself too thin. At that point in time, it had The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, Game of Thrones and Tales from the Borderlands in the works. Since then, they’ve added Batman and Minecraft to their lineup along with this TWD miniseries before the upcoming The Walking Dead: Season Three.

The first episode of The Walking Dead: Michonne certainly seemed like evidence that Telltale had finally overwhelmed itself and its quality was slipping. Episode Two: Give No Shelter is an improvement on the first episode but we’re still a long way from the peak of Telltale’s ability.

Rise of the Tomb Raider Review: Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Askew

rise-of-the-tomb-raider-headerSeldom do reboots actually reinvigorate a franchise. Sure, Star Trek wasn’t too bad but when you consider the likes of Point Break and The Amazing Spider-Man and Conan The Barbarian and Godzilla (twice), you find yourself scared away from reboots. Gaming isn’t immune to that with the likes of Sim City, Medal of Honor and Sonic the Hedgehog as failed attempts to reinvigorate franchises.

One of the more successful reboots in history is 2013’s Tomb Raider which is the series best-selling and among its most critically acclaimed. It came as a shock that Microsoft had to pay the way for this sequel to 2013’s hit. Rise of the Tomb Raider recently hit PC after an exclusivity period on Xbox One and will come to PS4 this fall (despite being the platform that Tomb Raider sold best on).

So how does the sequel to the reboot standup? Well, it’s not all sunshine and lollipops.

Game Trailers Roundup for April 11, 2016

It’s been a while since I’ve done a post over here on etg but I’ve finally got a little bit of time to actually do some writing. For example, tomorrow is the day our Rise of the Tomb Raider review drops. It took a while but it is 2,000 words so I’m not scrimping on value. By the end of the week, I’m hoping to have a review of the second episode of The Walking Dead: Michonne.

Anyway, you’re not here to read me prattle on about plans for the blog for the week. You’re here for video game trailers. We have nine trailers from the last week in gaming. Those trailers include launch trailers for indie hits Enter the Gungeon, Job Simulator and The Banner Saga 2. And there are trailers for little games like Star Fox Zero and Battleborn too.

Game Trailers Roundup for March 28, 2016

It’s been a couple of weeks since we’ve done the weekly Game Trailers Roundup but it’s certainly a good week to put the roundup back in action. After all, we have twelve trailers for you to watch this week from the big triple-As through to the indies. Of course, this week’s trailers are headlined by the launch trailer for Dark Souls III but there are also trailers for the VR-exclusive Chronos, indie Hyper Light Drifter and in-development triple-As like Uncharted 4 and Battleborn.

Can Codemasters Rescue the F1 Series with F1 2016?

Let’s take a break from the on-track action in Formula One and look at the virtual world of Formula One. Codemasters is the current licence holder for the Formula One video game series. The racing game specialists have held the rights to F1 since the 2009 season and while gamers have been happy, not much has changed over the last six years. Last year, satisfaction bottomed out with a barebones effort in F1 2015.

In their second year on the PS4 and Xbox One, Codemasters has to deliver a far superior experience before fans give up on them. They recently released a survey looking for feedback on previous games and ideas for upcoming ones and have brought in prominent members of the community for a private beta test. However, it’s still worth giving them some more longform feedback.

The Walking Dead: Michonne – Episode One Review: Sliced and Diced

the-walking-dead-michonne-headerMuch like they did between Seasons One and Two of The Walking Dead, Telltale has another small adventure to bridge the gap between seasons of their The Walking Dead series. While their TWD story runs parallel to the comic series, The Walking Dead: Michonne actually forms part of the continuity of the main story.

Telltale’s last two efforts with beloved characters were a mixed bag with Borderlands fans loving Tales From The Borderlands while Game of Thrones fans were underwhelmed by Game of Thrones (though the treatment of the likes of Ramsay Snow and the Lannisters was the best part of the series). With Michonne being one of TWD’s most popular characters, how would this effort turn out?

Nintendo Rumoured to be Funding Beyond Good and Evil Sequel

beyond-good-and-evil-headerIt’s not unusual to see console manufacturers step in to bail out third-party publishers to help them make games that wouldn’t otherwise be made. In the last year, we have seen Sony step in to fund Street Fighter V while Microsoft stepped in to continue Lara Croft’s adventure in Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Rumours suggest that Nintendo is getting in on that act. A source for accurate games industry news leaked documents to the press that indicates that Nintendo is throwing its money on a sequel to Beyond Good and Evil.

Game Trailers Roundup for March 7, 2016

It’s time to end the day with a look at the video game trailers from the week that was in the Game Trailers Roundup. There was a Nintendo Direct last week which means that we have five Nintendo trailers of the twelve in this week’s roundup. We have launch trailers, announcement trailers and Codemasters even put together a trailer of community footage for Dirt Rally.
