rooster-teeth-headerOne of the most popular production studios and multi-channel networks on YouTube is going to get bigger. Rooster Teeth, the production studio and YouTube MCN that rose to fame with its Halo-based Red vs. Blue series, announced that it is being purchased by Fullscreen, one of YouTube’s biggest MCN’s based on number of viewers.

Ubisoft Embargoes Assassin’s Creed Unity Reviews Until After the Game’s Launch

assassins-creed-unity-headerTwo big Triple-A games had their review embargoes lift on Tuesday. One of those was Dragon Age: Inquisition, a game that game out a week from this Tuesday, which already has the overwhelmingly positive reviews that you’d expect from BioWare of old. The other game was Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed Unity, a game that came out on Tuesday with some early and midnight launches but had a Noon EST review embargo.

In the latest of a series of avoidable gaffes, Ubisoft has again insulted the consumer. This time, they embargoed their top franchise’s annual offering’s review until after the game was released in an abuse of the system.

Comic Book Pull List for November 12, 2014

the-kitchen-1After noting a comparative lack of comics coming out the last couple of weeks, I swear that this week’s pull list just doesn’t end. An appearance at your local comic book store this week will certainly dent your wallet.

DC Comics has a new miniseries this week that certainly piqued my interest. In The Kitchen #1, the wives of some imprisoned Irish mobsters from Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan, take over operations while their husbands rot in the slammer. Marvel isn’t going to be outdone with the launch of Sam Wilson as Captain America in All New Captain America #1. This month’s edition of Star Trek takes the crew of the rebooted USS Enterprise to DS9 in the middle of the Dominion War thanks to Q. And if you want something ridiculously cool and outlandish, Quentin Tarantino writes a mashup of Django Unchained and Zorro in Django Zorro #1. This is one mashup/crossover I never saw coming

Haven: Morbidity Review

haven-logoOther week, another start to a Haven two-parter. While the words “Haven” and “two parts” have been a sign of impending disaster this season, with the introduction of a new female supporting character and something resembling a future direction for the plot in last week’s episode, I was looking forward to Morbidity.

Normally, I would say that we should know better than to set my hopes high for an episode of Haven this season but there’s a real chance that the season may have turned the corner this week.

BlizzCon 2014: Blizzard Announces New IP Overwatch and StarCraft II Expansion

blizzcon-bannerThis weekend was the annual ode to all things Blizzard known as BlizzCon. While most developers and publishers use platforms like E3, Gamescom, the Tokyo Game Show and even CES to announce and show off their upcoming creations, Blizzard waits until their annual November gathering to do so.

At the 2014 edition of BlizzCon, Blizzard had a few tricks up their sleeve. First was the announcement of their brand new IP, Overwatch, the reveal of the third part of StarCraft II and a bit more news about Heroes of the Storm and the Warcraft movie.

Doctor Who: Death in Haven Review

doctor-who-death-in-heaven-headerThe first eleven episodes of this season of Doctor Who have been absolutely brilliant. We’re used to sporadic good episodes but such a succession of great episodes in 10 of the first 11 weeks of Doctor Who is something that no TV show this side of maybe The Wire or Game of Thrones have been able to match.

The finale would be the biggest test of the course of Doctor Who under Peter Capaldi because finales are typically where the show falls flattest. Could a season that’s been so much better than usual end so much better than usual?

Is Guitar Hero Returning in 2015?

guitar-hero-world-tour-bannerWith this new generation of consoles, it seems as though everything that is old is new again. With so many franchises carrying over from the seventh-generation to the eight-generation and remastered games from the last generations, it shouldn’t be a surprise that one of the biggest franchises of the last two generations may be getting a revival.

Rumours say that Guitar Hero is getting a revival with a new game on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2015.

eSports Weekend Calendar: November 7 – 9, 2014

It’s BlizzCon weekend! That means it’s World Championship after World Championship after World Championship from Anaheim this weekend. The big one is the StarCraft II World Championship Series Global Finals which will see a new champion in 2014 after sOs missed the WCS top sixteen. There will be a Hearthstone World Championship this year after last year’s invitational. And Heroes of the Storm gets its own invitational tournament this year. Personally, I’m hoping for an imminent beta so I can get in on the Heroes action.

If those three games aren’t your speed, you can go a bit more standard with your MOBAs. There are a whole pile of Dota 2 leagues in action this weekend. Failing that, you can always watch a bit of CS:GO.

EA Pulls the Plug on Dawngate

dawngate-logoIt’s been about five months since I last checked in on EA’s attempt to break into the free-to-play MOBA genre but it seems as though that it hasn’t gone to plan. After six months in open beta and another twelve months of closed beta before that, EA has cancelled Dawngate and are getting out of the MOBA game for the moment.
