Is Gran Turismo 6 Coming This Year?
As a PlayStation guy, the discussion of road car, grand touring and sports car racing sims begins and ends with the Gran Turismo series. Even my friends who weren’t racing fans talked about the game and I can remember one long and heated discussion about the relative 180 made in handling models from GT1 to GT2.
According to an interview with Sony Computer Entertainment Europe Senior Vice President Michael Denny, it looks as though Gran Turismo 5 wasn’t our only taste of Polyphony Digital’s epic racing series on the PlayStation 3. Denny might have let it slip that Gran Turismo 6 will be out this year.
In an interview with Silicon Republic, Michael Denny was talking about games coming out for the PlayStation 3 this year when he said, “Look at the games coming out on PlayStation 3 this year like The Last of Us, like Beyond, GT6…”
Denny sounds pretty sure of the PS3’s first-party line-up this year. It doesn’t sound like he’s pulling names out of his ass.
It’s been reported that Gran Turismo 6 has been in development since 2010 and Polyphony has never made it a secret that they were working on GT6. However, I remember a much longer build-up to the release of GT5 than we’re going to get for GT6. That might have been in part because there was an eight-month delay between the planned March release and the actual release in November.
Polyphony hasn’t officially confirmed the release date or platform of Gran Turismo 6. Hopefully when it does arrive, it doesn’t come with a 7 GB install to play. My PS3 doesn’t have the hard drive capacity to handle that any more.
