PS4 Outselling Xbox One Nearly 2-to-1

xbox-one-vs-ps4EA might be accused of being quite fond of Microsoft and Xbox as a result of Titanfall and EA Access not being available on PlayStation platforms but the feeling may not be quite as mutual following a recent EA investor call. EA CFO Blake Jorgensen told investors that the current-gen console install base was 55 million units through two years on sale. That info also accidentally let slip how many consoles each manufacturer has sold.

Sony Tries and Fails to Trademark “Let’s Play”

playstation-4-share-buttonIn an unusual gaming controversy, Sony Computer Entertainment of America (SCEA) applied for a trademark of the term “let’s play” back at the end of October 2015. The application was discovered by the internet over the last week. This sparked a not insignificant controversy over SCEA trying to claim ownership of a fairly common term in the gaming world.

Funnily enough, the controversy should have been over before it even started. Before the news of the copyright application broke, the US Patent and Trademark Office refused Sony’s application.

Kojima’s apparent unemployment didn’t last long, though. Within about 24 hours of a report by Japanese business publication Nikkei stating the Kojima was no longer employed by Konami, Sony Computer Entertainment announced a partnership with a newly founded version of Kojima Productions to produce a new franchise.

E3 2015: PlayStation Trailer Roundup

playstation-e3-2015-bannerThe last of Monday’s press conferences was Sony’s keynote for the PlayStation 4. Okay, there was a couple of token mentions of the Vita but Sony at E3 is all about the PS4. While Sony didn’t have a big backward compatibility announcement like Microsoft did, they might have been able to steal the show with some big announcements like the latest from Media Molecule, Guerilla Games, and Square Enix. One of those latest from Square Enix was an internet-breaking reveal of a full modern remake of Final Fantasy VII.

Sony Announces PS4 Firmware 2.0 Which Includes Long-Awaited Share Play

ps4-share-buttonBack when the social features of the PlayStation 4 were first announced, one feature that caught a bit of heat from the core gamers was the ability for a friend to step into your game and take over for you. The idea is that if you were having trouble with a section of the game, you could ask a friend to play (or watch) to help you out.

While I thought that the PS4 launched with that feature, a quick perusal of the internet suggests that it wasn’t and still isn’t part of the PS4’s offerings. That will change shortly as Sony is soon to launch a virtual couch co-op feature called Share Play.
