Get Hyped for Season Five with The Official Game of Thrones Trailers
We couldn’t come back on a Friday without doing A Friday of Ice and Fire.
Since the new season of Game of Thrones starts on Sunday (and reviews of the show are returning on Tuesday), it’s only appropriate to get you excited for the new season in the properly official way. So let’s kick off the new season with some trailers for it.
And there are probably little snippets of spoilers. I say probably because I’m not watching the trailers. I’m just watching the show.
Game of Thrones – Episode One Review: Valar Morghulis
If ever there was a marriage of licensed property and game developer that made sense, it’s Telltale Games and Game of Thrones. With The Walking Dead series, Telltale showed that it could do series with dark themes, tough decisions and no-win scenarios. After some previous lacklustre GoT games, George R. R. Martin gave the okay for Telltale to have a go and assigned his personal assistant as a story consultant so you know this isn’t going to be a quick cash-in on the license.
Game of Thrones is the fourth series we’ve seen from Telltale this year and concerns about the possibility of the team being spread thin are unfounded. Episode One of GoT could be the best debut episode that Telltale has ever done and fits in perfectly with the rest of the world of Westeros.
Dominik Omega Raps Game of Thrones
If you listened to Catch The Throne, HBO’s Game of Thrones inspired album, you might remember that one track that was a rap about Arya. That was by Dominik Omega. He might not be the biggest emcee in the world but he’s an avid book reader, not just a show watcher, and can drop some sick rhymes about the books and its characters.
Since I’m fond of a little music on a Friday afternoon, here’s both of Dominik Omega’s raps about Game of Thrones for Friday of Thrones.
Game of Bloopers
While the folks behind Game of Thrones produce a lot of little featurettes that end up on YouTube and as extras on the Blu-Ray releases, I don’t think they’ve ever done a blooper reel. In addition to the Q&A with fans and preview of the new cast members added for Season Five, the Game of Thrones panel at Comic Con included a short blooper reel from Season Four. I think that’s a pretty good video for Friday of Ice and Fire.
Jon Snow Knows Nothing
Who would have thought that “You know nothing, Jon Snow,” would quickly become Game of Thrones’ most quotable line? Personally, I prefer quoting Bronn but that’s because I don’t have any more honour than your typical sellsword. Anyway, Ygritte’s famous quip might be the show’s most popular line but it might also be its most true line.
For today’s Friday of Ice and Fire, we have a supercut of Jon Snow knowing nothing.
The Special Effects of Game of Thrones
If you’re a fan of Game of Thrones, you already know that it’s the most expensive show on television. Of course, the fact that it’s one of the most watched and most critically acclaimed shows on television probably makes it worth the investment for HBO. Obviously, the majority of the money goes to the special effect department who do a fantastic job but have you ever wondered how much work they actually have to do to recreate the Seven Kingdoms for TV?
For today’s Friday of Ice and Fire, let’s take a look at what goes into making Game of Thrones come to life on HBO.
The Pugs of Westeros
While it’s not like you need to do much to promote Game of Thrones, it is one of the most watched shows on cable, the folks behind Blinkbox, a UK-based digital video service, decided that pugs were the best way to promote the release of Season Four of Game of Thrones on their service.
So for today’s Friday of Ice and Fire, we have pug dogs dressed up as the various characters of Game of Thrones. Don’t ask. Just enjoy.
Game of Thrones: The Children Review
Episode Tens are usually quiet episodes in Game of Thrones seasons. The big moments from the last couple of episodes are very neatly tied up with some new plot threads dangled to keep you interested in the next season. While those fresh threads were teased in this episode, a lot more than just quick little tie-ups happened this week. Yeah, I can see why the producers submitted this for a writing Emmy.
Game of Covers: A Collection of Game of Thrones Theme Covers
We’re down to the last episode of the season on Sunday night. On the one hand, this means I can start reading A Storm of Swords without having to worry too much about spoilers. On the other, that means we have to wait another ten months for more episodes of Game of Thrones. After this season, I’m not sure I can wait that long for more GoT.
And waiting is a good enough segue to bring us to the final Friday of Ice and Fire of the season. Many of my GoT watching friends aren’t big fans of sitting through the nearly two minutes-long title sequence. I, on the other hand, love it. I love the guided tour of key locations in Westeros and Essos. I like that we’re not stuck with only a title card like so many other shows. And I love the theme song.
So for today’s Friday of Ice and Fire, I found a whole pile of great Game of Thrones theme song covers for you to listen to.
Game of Thrones: The Watchers on the Wall Review
The ninth episode of each season of Game of Thrones has a bit of a reputation. After all, each of the three previous ninth episodes have been absolutely epic episodes. Seasons One and Three had game changing moments to end the episode. Season Two had a big budget epic. This season’s ninth episode is closer to the latter than the former which is probably appropriate given that the director of Blackwater came back for The Watchers on the Wall.
