E3 2016: Microsoft Introduces “Play Anywhere” Cross-Buy Plan for Xbox One and Windows 10

xbox-play-anywhere-e3-2016One of the recurring themes of the Xbox press briefing on Monday was that games that are Xbox One exclusive will also be exclusive on PC to Windows 10. For PC gamers who have upgraded to Windows 10, this was the press conference that they’ve been waiting for from Microsoft. However, there was another treat in store for PC gamers. Microsoft announced their new Xbox Play Anywhere program that allows gamers to buy a select game once and play it on both Xbox One and Windows 10.

E3 2016: Quake Champions Brings Back the Name but Not the Game

quake-champions-banner-e3-2016As we had predicted, following the success of Doom, Bethesda and id Software have gone back in their library to find another classic title to bring into the modern age. While the reboot of Doom kept much of what made gamers fall in love with it (with a few modern twists), it sounds like id’s reboot of Quake with Quake Champions will be much more modern in its design.

E3 2016: Nintendo Trailers Roundup

Nintendo was the last company to do their E3 presentation. This year, they eschewed from using their Nintendo Direct presentation format and instead did a Nintendo Treehouse let’s stream type of format. The change in format seems to be a result of Nintendo not having too much to show at the moment apart from new Legend of Zelda and Pokemon games.

E3 2016: Ubisoft Trailer Roundup

A few years ago, an Ubisoft executive said that the company wasn’t interested in a game if they couldn’t build a franchise out of it. It certainly looks that way from this year’s press conference where even Ubisoft’s experimental titles are getting the franchise treatments. Grow Home gets a sequel. Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon and Trials get a cross-over game. The only Ubi game not getting a sequel is Beyond Good & Evil. But there was one new IP unveiled. It’s an extreme sports game so it might not be for everyone.

E3 2016: Bethesda Trailer Roundup

Carried by a Doom reboot and Fallout 4, Bethesda’s first appearance at E3 was a success with viewers at the time and with gamers and the press when those games came out in fall 2015 and May 2016. Twelve months later, Bethesda is back with a bigger lineup of games but not necessarily a stronger one.

E3 2016: PlayStation Trailer Roundup

Unlike the other E3 press events, the folks over at Sony just ran trailer after trailer as their press briefing and left talking to a minimum. The longest spell of talking was when Shawn Layden unveiled the launch date and price for PlayStation VR ($399 USD and October 13th). That doesn’t take away from the beautiful, heart-felt speech of Shawn’s about the Orlando shooting. The vast majority of the conference was games with the trademark plethora of surprises that we’ve come to expect from Sony.

E3 2016: Microsoft Trailer Roundup

Day Zero of E3 featured both of the big console manufacturers showing off their wares. Microsoft went first leading with the Xbox One S and taking about 90 minutes to kill it by announcing the Scorpio. In between that, they had a number of games to debut with a few games getting featured billing like Gears of War 4 and ReCore and a number of smaller games.

E3 2016: EA Trailer Roundup

EA was the first company to show off their upcoming games with their E3 press conference. While we knew what was coming ahead of time (a recurring theme of this E3 so far), they did have some pretty interesting trailers showing off their games. And FIFA has a story mode so I guess some lessons from the amazing Fight Night series live on at EA Sports.

E3 2016 Preview: Can Ubisoft Recover From Repeated Disappointment and Cynicism?

ubisoft-banner-e3-2016Poor Ubisoft. They started off the 2000s so well but have been finding themselves the butt of more jokes than the likes of EA or Microsoft. It takes a long series of disappointments to get people to roll their eyes at any announcement that you make but that’s the point we’re at with Ubisoft. However, they’re cycling Assassin’s Creed out of rotation and hoping they can reinvigorate their brands.

E3 2016 Preview: Microsoft Will Be Focusing on New Hardware in Their E3 Keynote

microsoft-e3-2016As is the current state of operations for the pre-E3 press conferences, Microsoft will be the first company out of the blocks on Monday. Their annual press conference has a few tasks this year. As always, they have to hype the games coming this fall for the holiday shopping season. More importantly, there’s the matter of the second-generation Xbox One that they have to sell without scaring off current Xbox One owners.
