Assembly Winter 2015 has SC2, Hearthstone and ASUS ROG CS:GO action. The various League of Legends pro leagues are up and running. DOTA 2 fans aren’t left out in the cold either with the Asia Championships and MLG Pro League underway. There actually is something for everyone this weekend.

The big feature in this week’s eSports Weekend Calendar is ESL’s first standalone IEM event in North America. Usually, IEM events are run at big comic or gaming conventions but IEM San Jose breaks that mould by running at San Jose’s SAP Center, home to the NHL’s San Jose Sharks. IEM San Jose has both a League of Legends tournaments with some big North American and European teams and an SC2 tournament that will hand out the first WCS points for 2015.

LDLC Overcomes Cheating Scandal to Win DreamHack Winter CS:GO Tournament

dreamhack-winter-headerThat French eSports team LDLC won the $250,000 DreamHack Winter Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament wasn’t a huge surprise. The real surprise was the LDLC overcame unusual circumstances that would have sunk other teams en route to that championship.

At one point, LDLC was out of the tournament after the quarterfinals having lost to Fnatic but a scandal over Fnatic using a “pixelwalking” exploit resulted in a protest, forfeiture and a storybook run for LDC to the DreamHack Winter Championship.

eSports Weekend Calendar: November 7 – 9, 2014

It’s BlizzCon weekend! That means it’s World Championship after World Championship after World Championship from Anaheim this weekend. The big one is the StarCraft II World Championship Series Global Finals which will see a new champion in 2014 after sOs missed the WCS top sixteen. There will be a Hearthstone World Championship this year after last year’s invitational. And Heroes of the Storm gets its own invitational tournament this year. Personally, I’m hoping for an imminent beta so I can get in on the Heroes action.

If those three games aren’t your speed, you can go a bit more standard with your MOBAs. There are a whole pile of Dota 2 leagues in action this weekend. Failing that, you can always watch a bit of CS:GO.

We’re another weekend before Blizzard starts with its various World Championship tournaments so we’re in a bit of a holding pattern this week. I guess that’s unless you’re a CS:GO fan, in which case you’ll be interested in HITBOX Arena Championship Grand Final on Sunday afternoon. Otherwise, Dota 2 and StarCraft II have the group stages of some smaller tournaments to keep your attention this weekend.
