Evolve Wins Best of Show and 3 Other Best of E3 Awards
After an E3 that didn’t really set the gaming world on fire for the remainder of 2014, the 29 media outlets on the Game Critics Awards panel have announced the official best of E3 award winners. The big winner was Evolve which picked up four awards, including Best of Show. Hot on its heels was No Man’s Sky which won three awards, one of which is was best Indie Game.
By the way, don’t try to make sense of why some games won some big awards but missed out on other awards. Given that I keep hearing about these awards from Geoff Keighley, I’d imagine that some VGX-style consolation prizing is going on.
Six Seasons and Where’s My Movie? Yahoo Revives Community
Just when we thought that we were in the darkest timeline, Yahoo, of all companies, grabbed the die from mid-air and saved Community from cancellation. The former search engine turned web conglomerate is getting into the original programming business and is leading off with a 13-episode sixth season of the cult hit sitcom.
Comic Book Pull List for July 2, 2014
After taking Canada Day off because I’m Canadian and it’s a statutory holiday, it’s time to give you this week’s comic book releases just in time for your local comic book shop to open today.
This week seems to be tie-in week at the major publishers. With the new movie coming out soon, Marvel is pushing Guardians of the Galaxy hard. This week sees the launch of two new series, Guardians of the Galaxy: Most Wanted and Rocket Raccoon. We recently previewed a tie-in with the Robocop reboot but the original Robocop continues in Boom’s Robocop #1. And IDW’s Dexter’s Lab miniseries comes to an end in Dexter’s Laboratory #4.
If tie-ins aren’t your thing, the crossover event of the century continues in Batman ’66 Meets The Green Hornet #2. And Marvel is doing some odd 100th anniversary thing with the Fantastic Four. Marvel has only been around 75 years and Fantastic Four 53 but that doesn’t mean that Marvel can’t fast-forward to 2061 to look at the future of the Fantastic Four in the 100th Anniversary Special – Fantastic Four #1.
