Intel Extreme Masters is Coming to Fan Expo
It was just speculation when IEM Canada first announced but the folks behind Fan Expo have made it official. This August’s stop on ESL’s Intel Extreme Masters tour will be coming to Toronto as part of Fan Expo Canada.
While IEM hasn’t officially announced the location of IEM Canada on their website, the gaming attractions section of the Fan Expo Canada website has confirmed that IEM will be at Fan Expo this year. An IEM event being a part of a convention isn’t new for ESL. These events are often hosted at conventions with New York Comic Con hosting IEM three times and Gamescom also holding three IEM events among other conventions.
ESL has confirmed that a StarCraft II tournament will be part of IEM Canada. Also part of IEM’s offerings, though not yet confirmed for Toronto, are League of Legends and Hearthstone tournaments. We’ll see if those are added to IEM Canada or if it will just be a StarCraft tournament.
Fan Expo is Canada’s largest fan convention. The 2014 edition will be the 20th annual Fan Expo Canada event. Last year’s Fan Expo (attended by your’s truly) saw the convention to both buildings of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre and attendance top 100,000 people.
We’ll have more coverage and information about the event in the run up to Fan Expo.
