Telltale Reveals First Tales from the Borderlands Details
We’ve heard little about Telltale’s upcoming Tales from the Borderlands series since its reveal at the 2013 VGX but Telltale used a special panel at SXSW in Austin this weekend to shed some light on their take on Gearbox’s signature franchise.
Folks from both Gearbox and Telltale were at a SXSW panel called “Two Sides to Every Story – Tales from the Borderlands” which was our first time properly hearing about the crossover project that will see Telltale Games develop the game with help from Gearbox.
The two characters you saw in the trailer for the game will be back as the featured protagonists in Tales from the Borderlands. Fiona is a con-artist and Rhys is a cybernetically-enhanced Hyperion company. You will control each character at different times as they recall stories from the future. Telltale President Kevin Bruner said that each character has a different view of what happened in those stories and that will be a part of the game’s plot.
As you would expect from a Borderlands game, it will take place on Pandora but it won’t focus on vault hunters. That being said, characters you know from the previous two games will make appearances in this game. Unlike Telltale’s current games, Tales from the Borderlands will feature the franchise’s signature humour in the script.
Don’t think that this is going to be your standard point-and-click Telltale affair. Each character has a unique power. Fiona can fast talk just about anyone while Rhys can use his robotic arm to hack and impede electronics. There will also be some shooting segments in the game. I don’t think you can expect a full on Borderlands recreation but a Telltale recreation of Borderlands shooting gameplay.
Neither Telltale nor Gearbox revealed a timeline for Tale from the Borderlands apart from a release in 2014.
Our friends at Telltale Games PR also passed along a full video of the panel in case you wanted to watch it yourselves.
