Xbox One Sets a November 22nd Launch Date

xbox-one-logo-bannerA couple of weeks after Sony announced the PlayStation 4’s launch date at Gamescom, Microsoft took to YouTube to announce when the Xbox One would be hitting store shelves.

While Sony is having staggered North American and European launches, the Xbox One will be available in all of its worldwide launch countries on the same date. The Xbox One comes out on November 22, 2013.

The PlayStation 4’s launch dates sandwich the Xbox One launch. The PS4 launches in North America on November 15th while the remainder of the world gets the console on November 29th.

Microsoft ninja’d their way in between the Sony launch dates likely to grow their market share in Europe. The Xbox 360 was the third-wheel in Europe during the current console generation. To gain back market share, pre-ordered Day One versions of the Xbox One will include a copy of FIFA 14 which is one of the top-selling games in Europe.

The Xbox One will launch in 13 countries this year with other countries coming in 2014. Initially, Microsoft planned to launch the Xbox One in 21 countries but plans changed due to supply issues. The initial plan also involved strict region locking so call this winning some and losing some. The console will be available at launch in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Austria, Brazil, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand and Spain.

So it’s official. The countdown to next-gen is on. We’re less than three months out. Is anyone else just a little excited (even if they’re going to wait for more games to come out before buying a console)?

Here’s the official Microsoft announcement:

  1. I’m looking forward to the Ps4. But not going to get it day one. I’m going to wait a few months before i splurge. I can’t wait to play Watchdogs and Assassins Creed 4 on the PS4.
