Russia to Ban Swearing on the Internet
While Russia is busy waging their war against gays and those who support them, they’re engaging in a mission to single-handedly fix the internet that’s so ridiculous that is makes Aaron Sorkin’s internet writing on The Newsroom seem Emmy worthy.*
Russia is planning to clean up the internet by requiring all web pages with profane language be blocked from access in Russia within 24 hours of the profane language being posted. See, told you Will McAvoy wasn’t this crazy with his mission to civilize.
The anti-internet swearing law (which we might as well just call an anti-internet law) is a planned amendment to the Protection of Children Law that is currently used to ban a number of website as well as put age restrictions on books, concerts and TV shows.
While Yelena Mizulina, the politician responsible for this amendment, did not provide a formal comment, Moscow Regional Bar Association chairman, Sergei Smirnov, provided a comical statement. He said, ” This is a direction towards a civilized lifestyle. If we do not use foul language in real life, then why do we use it on the Internet?”
I don’t know about you but I swear fairly frequently in real life. If someone in Moscow knows Mr. Smirnov, could you tell me what he says when you step on his foot? I bet it wouldn’t be all G-rated.
* FYI: I rather like The Newsroom but I thought most people would appreciate that joke.
