The Secret of Peter Molyneux’s Curiosity Revealed

The long-awaited secret behind Peter Molyneux and 22Cans’ iOS cube-clicker Curiosity has finally been revealed. The prize at the end of the Curiosity could be considered a bit underwhelming and massively unexpected at the same time.

The winner of Curiosity was Bryan Henderson of Edinburgh, Scotland. He was the person who destroyed the final cubes surrounding Curiosity’s secret. For his troubles of cube clicking, Henderson won two very interesting prizes.

First, Henderson is going to effectively be able to play god in 22Cans’ upcoming game, Godus. Molyneux referred to it as being the god of all people playing Godus which itself is a game about being a god. This allows Henderson to decide the rules of the game and how they play it. Also, Henderson will get a share of the revenues of the game.

It’s a pretty interesting prize. Henderson controls the game to some extent and will impact his own earnings as a result. If, for example, Godus is tuned poorly and purchases and microtransactions dry up, the failure of the game will be part his fault and probably part 22Cans’ fault. However, he must share in the blame. It’s a very cool thing that Molyneux’s done here. I’m interested to see where it goes from here.
