The State of Gaming in 2013 (Infographic)

The 2013 edition of the Electronic Entertainment Expo, also known as E3, officially kicks off tomorrow but the show really kicks off today with the big keynote presentations by the big names. Importantly, we’re about three hours from Microsoft’s Xbox One presentation and about twelve hours from the PlayStation 4 event.

We’ll have full recaps of the two keynotes tomorrow but let’s head into E3 with this look at the current state of gaming. This infographic looks at how gamers play, what they spend their money on and their thoughts on the next generation of consoles.

How Much Would WoW’s Stormwind Keep Cost? (Infographic)

The folks over at Movato have a real cool hobby. They frequently do valuations on fictional real estate. World of Warcraft fans would be fans of their latest in-depth valuation. They’ve taken a look at Stormwind Keep and valued it in both real dollars and in-game gold, in case Blizzard decides that they need to sell it off.

Gaming Can Be Good for You (Infographic)

Gaming tends to have a bad reputation with the older crowd. They think it ruins your mind and makes people violent. I think we went through this with rock music and rap at other points in time. It turns out that there have been quite a few observed benefits to gaming, be it mentally, physically and socially.

Shepard Has a New Plan to Defeat the Reapers

If the whole Prothean super weapon thing doesn’t go well for Commander Shepard, she has to have another plan up her sleeve. Fortunately for the galaxy, she’s been hard at work on a new plan to stop the Reapers.

Raphael Sbarge Reveals His Script Notes for Mass Effect 3: Citadel DLC

One of the great things about the internet and social media is the little behind the scenes looks at just about everything. That includes AAA games. At a convention last weekend, Raphael Sbarge (AKA Kaidan Alenko) revealed some of the direction that he and the other actors were given ahead of recording the final scene of Mass Effect 3’s Citadel DLC. If you’ve played the DLC, you’ll probably love it.

What’s It Like Inside a Pokémon’s Poké Ball?

I’ve never given much thought into what it’s like to live inside a Poke Ball. I always just assumed that Pokemon were converted into some sort of energy and stored inside the Poke Ball. The blue lightning effect from the cartoon reminded me a lot of Star Trek’s transporter setup so I guessed it was like a transporter where Pokemon were held in a suspended state until called upon again.

That theory of how Pokemon live inside the Poke Ball is explored by the folks at Movato along with two others in a handy new infographic.

This Halo Wedding Ring is Pretty Cool

I’ve never really understood what everyone sees in Halo. Maybe it’s because I was late to the game with the PC port but I never really got why it has such a massive following.

I will admit, though, that this custom-made wedding ring for a Kotaku reader that recreates the Halo from the first game is pretty damn cool.

Mal is Still Alright with a Sword

If mercy is the mark of a great man, then Captain Malcolm Reynolds is just alright. Here’s another day in the life one of the biggest names in geek culture. Nathan Fillion is just running off with Zelda and stabbing Link with his own sword. No big deal.

Phil Fish was Right. PCs are for Spreadsheets.

Remember when Phil Fish said that PCs are for spreadsheets? Now that Fez has a PC port, Steam user McKack put a new spin of Fish’s infamous comments with some spreadsheet-based fan art. I love it. The fan art’s pretty good too.
