eSports Weekend Calendar: February 13 – 15, 2015
It’s a quiet weekend in the world of eSports this weekend. Outside of the various top flight League of Legends professional leagues, not a lot is happening. There are a couple of Dota leagues ongoing and ESL is having another round of its weekly Hearthstone tournaments. The big non-LOL event of the weekend is the Round 1 Finals of the SC2 Proleague as SK Telecom T1 takes on Jin Air Green Wings. Okay, there’s some World Championship Series events too but that’s still just the group stages.
eSports Weekend Calendar: February 6 – 8, 2015
It’s a little quieter on the eSports front this week in terms of competition. With IEM and Assembly Winter 2015 last week and no equivalents this week, SC2 and CS:GO fall off the calendar. It looks like it’s just League and Dota with a bit of Hearthstone thrown in for a bit of variety. There is a bit of cool eSports news and a new app that I want to write up a quick report about for tomorrow. Keep your eyes open for that.
eSports Weekend Calendar: January 30 – February 1, 2015
For the first time since December, we’re back with another edition of the eSports Weekend Calendar. I think I picked a good weekend to get back into the swing of watching eSports. IEM is back for the first time since San Jose with a trip to the other side of the world for IEM Taipei. Assembly Winter 2015 has SC2, Hearthstone and ASUS ROG CS:GO action. The various League of Legends pro leagues are up and running. DOTA 2 fans aren’t left out in the cold either with the Asia Championships and MLG Pro League underway. There actually is something for everyone this weekend.
eSports Weekend Calendar: December 5 – 7, 2014
The big feature in this week’s eSports Weekend Calendar is ESL’s first standalone IEM event in North America. Usually, IEM events are run at big comic or gaming conventions but IEM San Jose breaks that mould by running at San Jose’s SAP Center, home to the NHL’s San Jose Sharks. IEM San Jose has both a League of Legends tournaments with some big North American and European teams and an SC2 tournament that will hand out the first WCS points for 2015.

The Asus ROG Dream League is also running an event this weekend in Jönköping at DreamHack too. Basically, if you want live eSports action this weekend, you’re at or streaming DreamHack.
Samsung White Win League of Legends World Championship
It might not have been for $5 million but that doesn’t make any less sweeter for the champions. Korean team Samsung White capped off a spectacular run through the 2014 League of Legends World Championship with a dominant 3-1 victory over Chinese team Star Horn Royal Club to win the championship and a $1 million prize.
eSports Weekend Calendar: October 17 – 19, 2014
If you’re a League of Legends fan, the whole year comes down to Sunday. It’s Samsung White vs. Star Horn Royal Club for the World Championship on Sunday in Seoul. You’d probably peg Samsung White as the favourite heading into this match as they’ve won 12 of 13 maps played during the World Champion tournament (that one loss was to Team Solo Mid in the quarterfinals). It’s been a bit closer for SHRC who cleared the group stage with a 5-1 record but scraped through their playoff matches in two 3-2 victories.
Elsewhere, Hearthstone has a pretty big tournament as TakeTV hosts SeatStory Cup II this weekend. StarCraft 2 is taking a bit of downtime before the WCS World Finals at BlizzCon but BaseTrade is filling the gap with a 32-man tournament. And The Summit 2 and Synergy League continue with their group stages.
eSports Weekend Calendar: October 10 – 12, 2014
There are two world championship playoffs this weekend that fans of those games will want to keep their eyes on. Meanwhile, StarCraft II has the final regional WCS playoff for WCS America which will set the field for the World Championship at BlizzCon.
Elsewhere, a couple of tournaments for Hearthstone and CS:GO will have their playoffs this weekend, complete with finals. And if you’re looking for Dota 2 league action, ESL One New York in the Madison Square Garden Theatre is this weekend.

The quarterfinals of the League of Legends World Championships are this weekend as we’ve reached the final eight. StarCraft II”s WCS Europe is also down to its final eight and will crown the Season Three champion this weekend and likely confirm a few more trips to the WCS Global Finals. The GSL is well past the final eight. This Saturday is their Season Three final that pits soO who has finished 2nd in the last three GSLs and Innovation who needs to win to have a shot at BlizzCon.

If you’re a MOBA fan, you have your choice of action from the big two this weekend. Star Series action is happening all weekend in Dota 2 while the League of Legends World Championships continues with Group C and D action.
Two more eSports are in action at DreamHack Stockholm this weekend. StarCraft II has another mega 96-player tournament with a trip to the $75,000 DreamHack Winter tournament and the even more valuable WCS Points on the line as we run up on BlizzCon and the World Championship Series finals. Also at DreamHack (and making its first appearance on the eSports Weekend Calendar) is an eight-team Counter-Strike: Global Offensive invitational tournament with $10,000 on the line for the champions.
