Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Trailer Premieres, Gives Away Whole Movie

The latest trailer to next year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice premiered on Wednesday night. The three-minute trailer answers a lot of the questions that fans had coming into the movie including who the villain would be, why would Batman and Superman fight and how would Ben Affleck and Jesse Eisenberg manage in their new roles. So suffice to say that there are spoilers in the trailer.

While most people have big reaction videos for new trailers, I think I’m just going to stick to random points of note and there will be spoilers.

  • I’m taking this as Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor is going to literally be Superman’s Joker. Luthor is supposed to be one of the smartest men on Earth. Here, he just seems like a cartoonish supervillain. It’s entertaining in a trailer but a trailer is two minutes, not two hours.
  • While Lex Luthor is in the movie, they’re making Doomsday the villain of the movie. Like Luthor, they’re changing the character. Doomsday used to be this great monster from the depths of Krypton. Now, he’s just a reincarnated Zod. And they burn through Superman’s most dangerous foe in a Justice League prequel.
  • Batfleck seems to be trying the same act that Christian Bale did as Batman. I do buy Ben Affleck as the playboy billionaire Bruce Wayne. There’s something just right about art imitating life.
  • The movie doesn’t seem to have a plot. Batman and Superman are manipulated into fighting so Lex can use Doomsday to destroy them both because… reasons? Then again, I’m probably asking too much. Superhero movies aren’t written in such a way to win Oscars.

I think I’ve mentioned more than a few times that I’m a big Superman fan. I actually liked Man of Steel with the exception of the ending with Zod which is kinda spoiled in this trailer as well. However, I’m not sold on the movie after watching this trailer. I was more interested in watching Batman v Superman before seeing the trailer than after. It’s the opposite of The Force Awakens to me.
